MMW not converting WMA lossless files during wifi sync

Post by JeffV64 »

Currently doing a wifi sync and am seeing this. MMW is set up to convert any FLAC or any WMA file on sync, but it's not happening during this wifi sync session. MMA helpfully tells us the size of files being transferred (e.g., 56292 kB in the case of the file that is downloading right now), and this corresponds pretty well to the file size listed in MMW (53.7 MB for this song).

I have to head to work but later today I'll try to do a bit more investigating.

Just checked and 20 of the 32 songs I transferred over this morning were WMA lossless, the others were mp3 - so no FLAC. But glad to hear that FLAC is working properly for you. Hopefully this makes it easier to track the problem down.

Did you verify your conversion settings in the device profile to make sure MMW is set to convert WMA Lossless? Also check that you don't have multiple profiles for the same device.

Based on http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 09#p375709 the latter seems possible.

I believe that MMW is set up to transcode "any" WMA file. I do know that for USB syncs, WMA files do get converted.

As for the question regarding different profiles, any clues as to what I should look for? I do know that on the screen that lists the various plug-ins, including for my iPod, the phone's internal card, etc., that the SD card only appears once, and it always has the same name. One thing that is interesting about this is that often the checkbox next to the external card gets unchecked, and the box next to the internal card gets checked. I have no idea what causes this, but it means that I have to go back in and manually change it.

Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync and check the listed profiles. When a device has multiple profiles it isn't uncommon that wifi sync uses a different profile than USB sync. This would explain the difference in behavior as you may have checked the conversion rules in the profile used by the USB sync.

If you don't have duplicate profiles you may have a switched profile issue (where the external is used for internal and vice versa).

This was a good call Lowlander - looking at my internal storage profile, the playlists are the same as the external but the location for storing playlists, the folder structure for storing music, and the conversion rules all differ, and when writing new music to the phone's external card MMW used the parameters defined on the internal card's profile. Not entirely sure how this happened, but I do sync in two different ways: one is by pressing "sync" from the main menu, and another is by drilling down into options and telling MMA explicitly that I want to sync the external card only.

A relevant snip from the debug of this session is:

00003903 52.41814423 [5324] GetDeviceLibrary: Wireless ID: TA5970DRXU.1.0ed00f1c-3f0f-4d3e-9526-6cd1776c1a26
00003904 52.41820145 [5324] GetDeviceLibrary: Profile found: XT907 - Internal storage
00003905 52.42686081 [5324] Copy to Device: Saving Album Arts C:\Users\Public\Jeff's Music\The Rolling Stones\Brussels Affair Live 1973\07 - Heartbreaker.mp3

But this file was written to the SD card, even though the above referenced profile is to internal storage.

I'll continue to investigate and watch, but for now I would call the "MMW not converting WMA lossless files during wifi sync" resolved.

I guess the mixup may be related to doing both a wifi and USB sync: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... xternal+sd
