DLNA server acting up again - 1671

Post by dtsig »

This morning my daughter tried connecting from TV to MM with just the service running. MM showed up in the list but this time when she tried to connect she got 'denied'. So had her exit out of the TV settings and even turn off the TV. Then I started MMW. She then tried to connect again and NOW there are 2 MM showing. 1 denies and 1 connects.

1) why does MM show twice? Could it be because the service is still showing as STARTED?
2) why does MM service deny? It shows 'log on as local account' which would tell me it is starting as my local user and not Admin or anyone else

Thoughts ...

Are you sure that you haven't changed the service account (Task Manager -> Services tab -> [Services...] button -> MediaMonkeyService -> Log on) ?
Also if you click Task Manager -> Processes -> [Show processes from all users] you should see both MediaMonkey.exe instances and on which accounts they run

Thanks for the quick reply Ludek. Yeah pretty sure ... here is a graphic of the service info. It is running with MMW running also. Since I logged into the computer with my normal user login the service *should be* starting with same user id

Here is what is showing in processes. Only MM.exe and MMHelper.

Edited: I found i hadn't clicked 'all users'

Ludek, i just posted a new image in the post above. I hadn't clicked 'all users'.

I do see that "system" is running the service AND a version of MM. How is this possible? Shouldn't the "use local account" force it to start as 'Dsig' my user? And why does it also have a MM runnning? Oh my head :)

Hi, "Local System Acount" is not your "Dsig" account, it is the SYSTEM account.

I would suggest you to Uninstall/Install the service again which should correct this. I guuess you had to manually change it to Local System Account, because MMW uses your user account by default.

Thanks .. i will change it again. When I installed the service the last time it asked for my login .. i gave it. I don't believe I have made any change since then. But will do it again and report back tonight. Thanks again for the quick reply.

I uninstalled the service. then clicked install. Prompted for my users password. I enter it and get this .... notice the empty message window to the right of the options window.

Also, when I exited MMW the service did not start. I had to manually start it

There is definetly something bad about the service.

Could you again attach screenshots of the service 'Log On' page and the processess list with MM.exe ?

If your user password is not assigned (empty) then please run regedit and check this value:
- go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
- check LimitBlankPasswordUse vlaue on the right pane, is the value LimitBlankPasswordUse = 0 ?

EDIT: I've just tested this on Win 8.1 and I could replicate what you observed, the empty error box after install and the service did not start automatically, I had to start it manually. I will look into it.

I have played a bit with the problem on Win 8.1 and I found that it is not related to Windows version, but rather to user error.

I accidentally installed last build to C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey\ and run from installer, installed the service and closed.
BUT I had still an older version installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\ so I run MediaMonkey.exe from there, this is the reason why the service was not stopped/started, because I was running
C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.exe
instead of
C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.exe for which the service was installed.

Could you please check whether your issue is not the same? Could you check whether you have only single install on your computer and single MediaMonkey.exe for which you installed the service and which you are running?

BTW: the problem with the empty error dialog is fixed as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11495

Thanks for that. I know that this is a problem I had several months ago but was lucky enough to find this one on my own. I just checked and I only have 1 'program files (x86)\mediamonkey' .. or any MM directory in either program files. My link goes to "C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.exe"

I used to have a portable but that has been deleted. I am going to try to do some testing tonight very simple and try to create a repeatable situation.

by the way ... thanks for the link and the follow-up.

Ludek, it is with great sadness i have to report the MMW is dead. None of my archived DB files can be read as MMW continually says "library file blah blah can't be opened, would you like to ...". Even the file i used yesterday, from 10/28, to restart building the system can not be read. I have tried just about everything ... i have even stopped the service and set to manual. Then rebooted ... but to no avail. I think my only option now is to completely remove MM again and reload.

Unless you guys have some ideas or want to get on and look I will start that process in a couple hours ... after a good cry

Did you check that the DB that was being used is actually missing like Ludek suggested as a locked DB could be problematic?

You may want to do a search for MM.DB (include hidden files in search) on your whole system and see if any more recent database comes up.

Sorry i wasn't complete by stating there are no other mm.db files on my system. there is only 1 in the users\dsig\appdata\roaming\mediamonkey directory. It isn't missing the message says it can't be opened.

Also ... when I try to start MMW, again it says "Library file c:\Users\Dsig\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB can't be opened, would you like to create a new local library?"

When I say yes ... it goes away for 8-10 seconds then just comes back with the same message. Isn't it supposed to create a blank db over the old one?
