Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
A couple of days ago, I installed the latest - 1277 - and used the Standard build, just in case.
Windows 8 64-bit, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six Core Processor, ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, 8gb memory, MM Gold, only the plug-ins that come with MM, just the scripts that come with MM, using MM Wasapi output to an RME Fireface 800 (which is also 400 compatible) running through Firewire 400 cable into PC.

Theloniuscoltrane,
I need a bit of clarification. You wrote "it's back already". Do you mean that the problem occurs even when using wave_out with volume leveling enabled?
Josh,
Can you also confirm that the problem occurs even with the standard (non-debug) build?
Thanks.

I know this must be frustrating for all who care enough to try to help me, and I appreciate the tenacity with which you are apporaching solving this problem.rusty wrote:Theloniuscoltrane,

The problem is that it works for a while, then it doesn't. I just rebooted my computer, switched to the wave_out and started playing mp3's. Three songs played flawlessly and then nothing would play at all. The song would kind of start - without any sound - then nothing.
Yesterday, the wave_out volume/leveling combo worked for a few songs, then it started making the noise at the start of each song. I put a few of the songs into SoundForge just to make sure there wasn't some magically added noise at the beginning of the song and the songs looked and played cleanly.
In fact the songs all play cleanly through SoundForge, WinAmp, WMP and iTunes. The problem is only in MM.
When I said it's back already it's because a couple of obfuscational variables occur almost every time I go through this. I keep hoping the problem is fixed. I listen to MM 6-8 hours a day while at work and this is driving me crazy. So I get my hopes up every time and report a fix too early. Here's two things that create the confusion. One, it works for a while, or I try to elicit the problem by starting a song, dragging it's time thing (whatever it's called) to the end of the song, forcing it to more quickly go from song to song. When I do that, the sound almost never happens.
Here is today's state-of-the-system report.
I was just listening using the ASIO and WAV files with no problem at all. Then I switched to Monkey Direct and the click came back on the next song. Then I switched back to ASIO and the noise was there on the next song. Then I switched back to wave_out and on the next song, the music stopped.
Then I tried the whole thing over with MP3 files, using the ASIO and MP3 files with no problem at all. Then I switched to Monkey Direct and there was no noise. Then I switched back to wave_out and on the next song, the music stopped.
I've now switched back to ASIO and no clicks on WAV.
Thanks again to all.

Thelonius,
Thanks for the detailed info. I'm trying to confirm though, whether the issue you're seeing is the same as that reported by Josh, so can you please tell me: does the problem ever occur when using wave_out with volume leveling enabled on the non-debug build?
Thanks.

Sorry for the delay - yes, I have had the problem with both debug and standard versions. To double-check, I just upgraded to 1279 RC-1, standard version, and the problem persists.

Thelonius,
Thx--though I probably would have realized this had I read your previous reply more carefully

Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
Hi;
I'm getting the same behaviour as reported in this thread - a static burst at the end of every track right before it switches to the next track. Sometimes it's just a pop, other times it's a second or so of white noise. It's louder than the volume of the music files I'm playing. I'm just starting to set up my music server based on recommendations I found on Computeraudiophile.com. I like what I've seen of MediaMonkey so far, and I'd like to select it (and buy the Gold version) as my playback app. I've set up a new PC running Vista64 while I wait for my Windows 7 upgrade. It's got an Asus M4A78-EM AM2+ motherboard with a AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz CPU with 7.5MB of cache, 4GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD for the OS and apps, and a 1 TB internal drive for the music library.
I'm using dbpoweramp to rip my CDs to .wav and I'm trying out Mediamonkey for my playback app. I'm using a Lynx AES16 outputting to the AES/EBU port on a Bryston BDA-1. I've installed the ASIO version 0.67 drivers in MediaMonkey. Everything sounds great except for the burst of white noise at the end of every track. I've tried MediaMonkey 3.1.1.1261, 3.1.2.1280, and I just tried 3.2.0.1287, disabled/enabled the playback options Crossfade and Level Playback
Volume, tried ripping without the Replay Gain (Apply) dsp, and tried both versions of the 0.67 ASIO .dll as well as the WaveOut output .dll (V2.0.2a). Nothing seems to make a difference.
The weirdest thing (as noted by others in this thread) is that when I fast-forward a track (using the slider bar) to near the end and then let it play out at normal speed there is NO NOISE and it flows silently into the next track?!? I think this may be a key point to this issue.
I'm willing to work to try and figure this out, but I need some suggestions as to where to go from here. Would installing the debug version of 3.2.0.1287 be of any help? If so, how/where do I capture any useful logs? Thanks.

This issue may be fixed in build 1288 by http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6164 -- we can't be certain since we've never been able to reproduce.
Please let us know. Thanks.

Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
Hi Rusty;
Thanks for the update. I'll definitely give 1288 a try as soon as its available. FYI, I did open ticket TVP-351787 against 1287 as this ticket (5947) showed as Closed. I ran the debug version of 1287 and included a log capture with TVP-351787 along with my own observations. Please have a look if you're interested. Thanks.

Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
I'm DELIGHTED to report... that build 1288 has cured the problem for me! I guess this means that there had been a WAV conversion at some point during the creation of each of the files I was playing. Knowing my collection, this actually makes sense to me.
So the upshot is... The pop no longer occurs during playback of any files in my collection when I play them directly from my PC. In addition, when I copy files to my iPod Nano 4G, they get copied clean, without any popping sound.
I am amazed at the work you guys put into making this product the best it can be. I'll have to find something new to complain about now.

I second gjosh's report - this issue is resolved in 1288. You guys ROCK!!! Thanks for the fast fix.

Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
Is this the same as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5873 and http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... t=flac+bug ?
Does it mean that actually
- wav files are damaged?
- flac files are corrupt when converted from wav?
If yes, is there any possibility to scan files for the corrupt data, i.e. is there a binary pattern or a string I can search for?

Re: BUG#5947 now I'm getting get a crackle-bang sound
I am a bit confused with this. I am using version 3.2.0.1294 and am a Gold user. I have been using this for years and getting exasperated as everytime I "fix" an issue, another rears its ugly head!
I have just started to hear a static click/pop at random points on a song. If I go back to that point, I cannot reproduce the pop. I am listening to 320kbps tracks and haven't altered any settings. Is this the same as the issue on this thread or do I need to post a new thread? If it is the same, this issue has just started as new for me as opposed to being a fixed old issue for the users in this thead.
MM is set at 89db. The equaliser is off and I am using the standard functions of the player. The only thing I have altered since this issue appeared is that I have played around with the equaliser but not getting the sound I required, I set it all back to default and switched it off. This couldn't possibly be the issue would it?
After months of altering EVERY filepath and library track after a HD failure messed it up, I WILL BE SO ANGRY if all my playlists burn with these pops on them. It will blow my car speakers up!
Please help!
