..fails to sync the selected items. All it apparently does is disengage Auto-Synchronised.

You probably mean a switch between two modes of synchronization button. I.e., it only specifies what single click on the button does.

Oh, right. It would be useful to mention that in the user docs!

Especially since having to manually click to run a so-called 'auto' sync each time I make a change to the data set is really counterintuitive.
