1229 Adding album art freezes MM

Post by Sergey »

Hello!
Adding album art from AA and AA + details views leads to hang.

Steps:
1. I choose the album from any node
2. From AA or AA+details view right-click on an album art icon and click "Add image"
3. Choose an image and click "Open"

After that MM freezes.

Thanx for help!

I have/had the same problem when tagging MP3s (since build 1228 or 1227 I think). I alread posted this in another thread (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=38295), but it seems to be a different problem. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make a debug log as the crash occurs unregularly.

MediaMonkey, build 1232, has frozen twice for me while adding album art. Both times invoked by right-clicking in the Album Art square, selecting Edit Album Art Properties and pasting in images. MediaMonkey handles the pasting and re-ordering ok until I clicked OK - then, the dialog box "tried" to go away (parts of it got re-painted) and MediaMonkey got stuck. I waited several minutes and finally killed it in Task Manager.

Hi,

I tested this in 1235 and cannot reproduce. If anyone can either:
a) post a set of repro steps that consistently reproduces the problem
b) send a debug log of this issue occuring

we'll be able to fix this, but as it stands we can't reproduce it :-(

FYI, it happened to me again yesterday, build 1235. Unfortunately, no debug log as I am using the non-debug version now. It does not happen consistently, either. Yesterday, I did see that the "status bar" in MediaMonkey first updated to something like "9 tracks to be tagged" before it froze.

Fourteen,

I'm going to post build 1237 later today. Please try out the debug version, and try to replicate this issue & send me a log.

I've tried to replicate, but no luck, and if it occurs commonly enough, I'd like to fix it before we release 3.1.

Thanks.

OK.
It did happen to me again in 1236 over the weekend - repeatedly and I could replicate it with a particular album (WMA Lossless files). MediaMonkey hung and I had to kill it, over and over with that particular album (and art). I then installed the debug version of 1236 to get a log but using the debug version, I could then no longer replicate it.

Rusty,
I spent some time stripping down an example. Here are the steps I go through:
1- start with an empty db
by deleting AppData/Local/MediaMonkey and letting MediaMonkey create a new, fresh, empty one
2- scan in one album containing 11 tracks
these tracks are WMA Lossless files already containing album art
3- exit MediaMonkey
4- copy tracks and AppData/Local/MediaMonkey folder
to allow replicating the problem
5- start MediaMonkey
6- select the album under the Album node
7- right click and select Edit Album Art Properties
attemp to replace the existing "Cover (front)" jpg with a new one by pasting in new jpg from clipboard and Remove the existing one

Using MediaMonkey.3.1.0.1237.beta.exe I can replicate the problem - when clicking OK in the Edit Album Art Properties dialog, MediaMonkey displays "11 tracks to be tagged" in the status area and then hangs. It doesn't happen 100% of the times, but probably 9 out of 10 times, very consistently.

Using MediaMonkey.3.1.0.1237.beta.debug.exe I can not replicate the problem however, so I guess I cannot produce a log for you.

I have the db and the tracks from step 4 above - the db is 185KB and the tracks are 290MB - if that would help you debug the problem.

I keep running into this issue - MediaMonkey hangs when you are trying to edit album art and you have to kill it using Task Manager.
Today, when I ran into it I hoped that maybe I could work around it by first deleting the old album art before pasting in the new album art. However, then I ran into another bug... MediaMonkey fails to delete the album art! I have reported this at http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=38981 and sent you (support@mediamonkey.com) a log file and uploaded and made available a track that demonstrates this.

Fourteen,

Thanks for the detailed steps.

I'll be posting a new build shortly and cannot reproduce the problem with it. If you still observe the problem, please try to generate a debug log (hopefully you'll be able to).

Thanks.

Using MediaMonkey.3.1.0.1240.beta.exe I can still replicate the problem - when clicking OK in the Edit Album Art Properties dialog, MediaMonkey displays "11 tracks to be tagged" in the status area and then hangs.

Using MediaMonkey.3.1.0.1240.beta.debug.exe I can still not replicate the problem however, so I guess I can still not produce a log for you.

Fourteen,

I still can't replicate in 1140. Can you confirm that:
-The bug is limited to WMA Lossless tracks
-The tracks in the album are all contained within a single folder
-The bug occurs with tracks that have only a single Album Art Image stored to folder.jpg which is in the same folder as the tracks
-When you tag the new Album Art, the artwork is saved only to folder.jpg (i.e. the 'save to tag' option is unchecked)

fyi, the next build (1241 or later) will fix a related issue ( http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=5543 ) in which if folder.jpg is pasted, it doesn't properly replace the previous instance of folder.jpg in the directory. Since the replication steps for your bug involve replacing folder.jpg with a new folder.jpg, I'm hoping that this fix may resolve your issue.

Thx.
