podcast download problem [#1293]

Post by LondonLad »

Since I have upgraded to 3.1 RC1 I have problems with downloading full episodes. I can download individual episodes fine using IE8. However, Mediamonkey downloads are not full length. Some are just a minute or two, others are 80-90% of the original size. Before it would happen once in a while, but I was able to download it again by deleting the episode and clicking on the downlaod again. In 3.1 deleting episode removes it from the list, so I can not redownload it again. Should we have a download option active, so that episode can be downloaded again to replace the previous download? Or how else can I solve this problem?

Thanks

What is the podcast URL? I have not seen this problem with any of the podcasts I subscribe to. Also, you can disable removing the greyed out episodes by editing the subscription and checking "Show removed episode links".

well, sounds like I have found a bug then. I have ticked "show removed episode links" and tried to remove the episode. It has removed the episode and the link too. Even though it is suppose to show removed links, it does not do this. Can anyone replicate this behaviour? I am running 3.1.0 1235.

It is possible I had this enabled on my earlier version, so after deleting partial episode I would see the link and could manually force to download it again.

Regarding URL, they various BBC podcasts. They are random and I don't think feed is the issue here. It is possible that network glitch or something like this causes partial downloads. However, I don't experience this with itunes which I use for all other non BBC podcast. Maybe MediaMonkey should have a check if sizes locally matches the file on the server? But if it was possible to delete the episode and still see the link, it would be good enough for me.

Londonlad,

Can you give me a sample feed that triggers the problem? I've not observed this at all (though as nohitter explained, it could be that a network issue is causing an interruption in which case there is a planned feature to better deal with such situations. See: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=1293 ).

I'm having the same issue with v3.06. Just installed v3.1 to see if it still exists.
Here's a test feed that I find throws this error commonly. Brace yourself, it can be up to an hour long, with no way of knowing when the pcast will quit.

I also notice that some of my podcasts download, others do not. The ones that don't (including zencast above) update the playlist but are rows are greyed out (i.e. not downloaded). These seem to be the ones that have the errors. My first thought was that these were being streamed & when the stream buffer runs out, it skips to the next pcast.

ideas? solutions?

jhaynes,

I tested out the zen podcast and couldn't replicate the problem. That said, as I mentioned earlier, network issues can interrupt a podcast feed, and MM 3.1 doesn't have a means of dealing with such interruptions at the moment :(

Bung,

Are you getting this error in build 1252 ? If yes, please provide a bit more info (what podcast, does it always occur, etc.).

Thx.
