I'm using MM 3.10.1240 Gold (tried both Standard and Debug versions). I've noticed that when searching using the search bar, that it's not recognizing partial word searches. I've verified that in the preferences UI that under library/search that the search whole words only checkbox is unchecked as well as the appropriate fields to search are checked.
For my testings, I tried changing the checkbox to checked, closing and then restarting MM, then retrying searches and failed.
Then I changed checkbox again (to original unchecked state), closed and then restarted MM, then again retying search and failed.
Search information:
light looking for bluelighning in title fails. Results in entires with words starting with light. Looking for blue works for intended result.
jam looking for benjamine in artist fails. Looking for benj works as expected in this instance.
I did test 3.0.6 (separate account) and works. Builds 3.10.1196 (I believe one of the earliest available 3.10 builds) and later don't support this behavior.

Re: All 3.1 builds, no partial word search
Yes, in MM 3.1 the behaviour has been changed.
In MM 3.1 you need to enter a prefix. (infix and postfix work only in MM 3.0)

In FreeDB, the space is not sandwiched between first name and last name of Japanese artists.
So, it is impossible to search the first name of Japanese artists with MM3.1's search bar.
In addition, the Japanese language does not put white space between words.
Therefore, it is almost impossible to search by keyword.
This is probably as well as Japanese, is a common problem in Chinese and Korean.
I think that many Japanese users will use search dialog in substitution for a search bar In MM3.1.
