MM is removing the device, do you have it set to sync automatically and disconnect when finished maybe?

No. I specifically disabled the sync on connect some time ago. I was fighting freezes and wanted to control heavy tasks as much as possible. Plus sometimes I just plugged it in to recharge.

Just double-checked device auto-sync options. Only option checked is delete with confirm.

Same thing here - I just installed 1282 and it has no problems recognizing my wife's Shuffle instantly when you plug it in but can't automatically recognize my 2GB Clip. However, if I leave the Clip plugged in, and re-start MM, then it recognizes the Clip. Previous versions recognized the Clip without having to restart MM.

Yep. Restart MM while connected works here as well.
