1346: search slow and glitchy [#7410]

Post by vpsaxman »

Whenever I start typing a word or title in the search box, MM freezes before I have time to complete it and returns results of what I had time to type. Delaying MM's reaction time to input in the search box would fix the problem.

For example, if I search for something like "unknown artist", MM will freeze with "un" typed in the search box and return everything that has "un" before I can finish typing. After the initial freeze though, it works fine.

Just checked on 1346 and it was actually a really smooth experience. I've seen some weird issues in the past, but with 1346 it actually worked well.

I can confirm.
I experience the exact same problem.

I usually have the time to type 3 characters then Mediamonkey freeze.
And I have to wait a few seconds that it responds again to finish typing my search.

Thank you for reporting.

Still present as described by vpsaxman on my system using build 1346.
And yes It's not a new issue. I already had that issue on the previous builds.

Maybe some more details like what node you're currently in, if you're searching entire or current library, your library size and maybe what fields are set to be searched.

It happens in any node, any track display type configuration. I have it configured so it searches the whole library most of the time and the following fields : artist, album, album artist, title, path, comment, original artist, original title and people involved.

My library is 120,000+ files on 1.5TB...

Just a test, does it improve when you disable comment? I can't really test this scenario as I assume the amount of files can be an issue. I'd suggest creating a debug log: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=6&t=341

It's somewhat faster but still freezes on the first few letters I type in. I'm still not sure who I should send a debug log too when you suggest to do it.

Well, actually I tried to send a debug to the help desk but I've been told this is not the right medium to report bugs for alpha or beta versions. And I don't want to send random debug logs to the developers...

Bugs should be reported here, but debug logs when requested should be send to support as you can't attach them here.
