MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artwork

MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artwork
On Windows 7 with MM4 build 1357.
Even when option "Confirm desired options on addition of art" is selected, no option is proposed when adding artwork.
One can only add artwork as a tag which results in heavy audio files that raise compatibility problems with some MP3 players.
Best regards.

I'm not sure if this is a change or not.
First you can set to save to file under Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists. Secondly it does show a popup (to enter image type and image comment) when pasting art, but it has no options to define how it should be saved.
You can also set to embed/or extract Album Art in the Device Profile so it doesn't matter how you save it on your PC.

I just can not retrieve these settings I had in MM 3.2.4. So, it is a change.

This was intended, see the notes here:
http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7070
Basically the point is, most users will "set and forget" the art saving option, so why should this option be presented every time.

Once again they're taking away functionality that might be useful to some. Some users only embed the cover art and save all other art as external links and this has now become an issue.

Re: MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artw
Thank you, Lowlander. This is EXACTLY my case. I keep the front cover as a tag and just have link to other (sometime numerous or heavy) files.
For me, losing this feature is simply a NO GO.

We modified this further based on your feedback. I think that the revised design is both friendlier for the average user, but also gives users like yourselves the ability to customize artwork settings per file.

I really appreciate that my request has been taken into account. Thank you very much.
Now, I can have the first image (generally front cover) embedded as a tag while other artwork (leaflet pages, etc.) is just linked.
I am not fond of the copy to .thm files but I understand and respect your choice (avoiding indexation by images organizers). Netherheless, the user has now to delete original files himself in order to avoid storing the same image twice (the original jpg file and the new thm file).
I tested these enhancements on build 1381.
Some small problems. I opened a new thread in order to ease follow up. http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=58252
Regards.

Re: MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artw
Hi,
I just installed MM 4, and the first big negative change I noticed is the new artwork behavior with .thm files. My whole music database has jpeg files in folders, and I like it this way, because it also works with any other software.
I understand your reasons for doing that (support Photo or Video folders), but I'm using MM just for music, and I'm not going to use MM for other purposes in the future. You should stick to what you can do good. Photos are managed fine by Picasa, and I don't want MP3 support in Picasa.
I believe, many people think like me. If it is possible to add a switch which brings back the old behavior without the .thm stuff, I would be glad.
Kind regards, Sebastian

MM does not require to store art via .thm files. It can still be saved as jpg, you just need to set it correctly in the options.sebpaul wrote:Hi,

Re: MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artw
How do you prevent the thm files then? I'm adding an Art in the folder of a video file which will fail to embed (my setting is to embed) as it's a MPG file and it creates a thm file which according to setting has to do with multiple image files. I'm only trying to link to a single image file.

Don't use folder.jpg for the first image per album/series if you have multiple albums or series in the same folder. Just change it to <Album>.jpg or <Filename>.jpg.Lowlander wrote:How do you prevent the thm files then? Re: MM 4 build 1355 does not allow creation of links to artw
It's a single file in the folder with a single folder.jpg. I guess this is caused by poor handling of movies as movies don't have Album/Series or Album Artist value.

I have been naming the series the same as the movie title, otherwise the art doesn't display at all.Lowlander wrote:It's a single file in the folder with a single folder.jpg. I guess this is caused by poor handling of movies as movies don't have Album/Series or Album Artist value.
