Welcome wizard Media Scanning doesn't show all drives [#7763

Post by m_bojangles »

1375: The Welcome wizard Scan Media step does not offer all drive letters under the My Computer node in the window pane called "Select the folders you want to scan for media files". My computer uses these drive letters: C, D, E, F, I, J, K, L, O, P, S, T. All of my music is on drive T. The Welcome wizard is only showing me drives C, D, E, F.

If I use the Add... box that is directly under the checkbox called "Hide unselected items", I can put "T:" in there and hit "Add..." Then I see my T: drive as a new node in the wizard's main pane. Then I can drill down into drive T: and find my music folders. However... there was nothing suggesting I try that if I don't see all of my drives and your average consumer is not going to appreciate or even try this user-unfriendly work-around.

This is my first time testing beta versions and this is my first post in this section. Please let me know if there is anything else I should do to make sure this gets taken care of. Thanks!

EDIT: This is on Windows XP SP3, clean install of build 1375, Pentium D (dual core) at 3.0Ghz (circa 2005), music drive "T:" is a 2TB internal SATA drive.

Do you see the missing drives when using File > Add/Rescan Files? Is there anything particular about these drives (partition/USB/mapped)? I have no problem here and MediaMonkey shows all my many drives under Add/Rescan Files.

Hi Lowlander,
I will describe my specific steps here so you see what's going on...
My music on drive T is also being shared on the network and I could easily find the network share in the network node of the Welcome wizard's Scan Media screen. So I went ahead and added my music via the network share and MM scanned them in with the UNC paths. After waiting for the scan to complete, I clicked once to expand the My Computer node in MM's main interface, left-hand panel. I now see all of my drives under the My Computer node. As for main, top-level nodes, MM shows some drive letters there, but not all. It shows these drive letters as top-level nodes: I, L, K, J, F (in that order). I,L,K,J are "memory card reader" drives (memory card reader currently has no memory cards in it). Drive F is my optical drive and it does have an Audio CD in it and is showing as F:\[Audio CD].

Ok, to your specific question: YES - The Add/Rescan Folders window DOES show all of my drives under the My Computer node. I am noticing that this window is very similar to the window used in the Welcome wizard. So, it seems strange that the Add/Rescan window gets it correct, but the Welcome wizard leaves things out.
