[1394] MM doesn't Display Correct Name of Portable [#7999]

Post by nynaevelan »

I know this is a minor thing but it is a little annoying. When I change the name on my player, MM does not display the changed name. The device in the media tree will have the incorrect name but the syncronizing progress bar and the option sheet shows the correct name. This has been happening for several builds.

Thanks. Added at:

Note: from what I see, changing the device name _does_ work if you make the change from within the Device Summary tab.

Thanks , I will try that, I have always changed it from the device itself while it was not plugged. Hopefully changing it in the Device Summary tab will also change it on the device.

On a side note:

I looked in the devices table with sqlite manager and I noticed I had a lot of old devices in there that are no longer a part of my db, they no longer show up on the options sheet. I understand MM not deleting them because there is the chance these are still valid devices, but other than sql is there a way for users to clean out these devices? Would it be unreasonable for me to ask for an option to be added to the maintain library feature for a list of devices to be added in order for the user to select them to delete them?? This is especially relevant to users who have dbs that span over different versions of MM.

Rusty:

A tooltip here might be helpful for other users, personally I would never have thought you could double-click it to change the name unless you pointed me there.

I am still having trouble with this in 1398, the name shows up correctly in the options sheet for the device and when you click on the device it shows up correctly but it does not display correctly in the media tree. Could this because the name is different in the Galaxy itself??

I cannot reproduce and actually not sure I understand what you mean, could you attach a screenshot?
When you change the name via Media Tree node then it is automatically updated on the right side (config panel -> Summary tab) and vice versa, isn't it?

Note also that changing device name via the right hand 'Summary' device panel doesn't hit until you click [Apply] button, maybe this was the case?

Here is a screen pic of the changed name on the device but the media tree still showing the original name. This is after renaming using the device panel in the media tree and within the tools menu:

And did you click [Apply] button?

What you think by "and within the tools menu"? Where it is?

Maybe debug log might be also useful.

And what happens if you rename it via the 'Samsung galaxy Portal' tree node?

Here is the debug log, when I changed the name and hit apply it changed the name in the media tree but as soon as I rebooted the name reverted back to the original name: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13254132/galaxy%20renaming.LOG
