High Rez Mouse Scroll Issue in MM3 and MM4 [#8230]

Post by sirandar »

MM3, MM4 Windows7 Microsoft Laser 7000 mouse or any mouse with Hi Rez scroll ....

Just like MM3, MM4 still doesn't scroll properly with a high rez mouse including the MS Laser 7000. Probably MS's fault but they aren't going to fix it becasue they can't ...... the devs need to fix the MM program. Yes there are workarounds but they are not worth it. The easiest is to just install a low rez mouse driver but then thats for your whole system.

Sorry for not giving detail

Not scrolling properly means that scrolling slowly produces no scroll movement at all and scrolling fast produces relatively normal movement.

It only happens with scrollling the "album are views" MM4 fixed some of the places where this happens but not the "Monkeyflow" like view.

The scroll polling rate of a "hi rez" mouse is much higher than the standard rate, and "noncompliant" programs do't check enough so normal scrolls don't register at all but fast scrolls produce normal mouse scrolling. MS, logitech.... really messed up on how this was implemented and it is basically up to devs to make their programs work with these mice... Most new mice are "Hi Rez"

The workaround .....
1) Install a outdated mouse driver from Logitech or M$ that only uses low rez scrolling (lose smooth scrolling with all programs)
2) Install the really well written program "AutoHotkey" and write a hack script to selectively change the poll rate (causes issues and glitches).

Both solutions don't work very well .......

fyi: the following workaround might do the trick as well--apparently hi-res scrolling can be disabled via a registry hack:

note: I've also entered a bug to track this: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8230

Thanks.
