Video streaming problem on mm vs wmp [#8364]

Post by vapkse »

Hello

I have a computer with a mm dlna server and a windows media player dlna server. I try to configure the mm dla server with a vmw streaming conversion for everything and without video conversion.

I try to play the videos in a android tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab. With the wmp dlna server, no problems, i can stream any videos on the tablet, but with the mm dlna server, i can't play the videos. Sometimes the tablet stay on loading, sometimes the player return to the upnp library immediatly.

I try to open the stream with opera mobile, and i get 2 minutes of video in vmw format. I can play the 2 minutes without problems on the tablet player, but not the direct stream.

No problems with the music.

One good point, you browse the library more faster than wmp and the presentation is more friendly.

MM 4.0.0.1430, Android 2.3.3, Upnpplay and MX Video Player or VPlayer or The default video player.

Thanks for answer

Hello.

It's better on the 1431, I can play the videos files without conversion only, and only in VPlayer. MPlayer and the android default video player don't work, but work with the wmp server.

Build 1433 should fix it completely. Please confirm, once posted.

Hello.

I try the 1433 with the Android tablet.

Now without conversions, that work with all android players. Very good. I try some others upnp client too, without problems on the MM side.

But if I enable the conversion for all track (wmv and low quality predefined profile), impossible to play on the tablet. This is a configuration problem?

When I press on the Customize button of the conversion rules popup, I have an empty codec combobox. I see only one time some entries on this combo list.

ffdshow is installed.

Please try to remove your MM DLNA server and add it again. There were some changes in configuration, this would revert it to the default values.
Does your device support WMV (WMV8/WMV9) format?

Hello.

I remove and make again the two dlna server (one without conversion and one with). Now, I have wmv 7,8 and 9 on the combo, and that work.

For the android user, you can read wmv with:
VPlayer
MX Video Player
Mobo Player
And may be more...

The last problem with the wmv, is that it is impossible to change the playback position in the video. I dont know if it is a configuration problem, but I have the same problem with wmp server or if i read a wmv file directly without streaming.

Are you planning to convert in another format than wmv?

But great job, thanks.

Seeking in uncompleted WMV is problematic, Microsoft WM ASF reader in Windows cannot seek in such files and MM uses this filter for playback. But it should be possible in completed WMV, when playing directly. Where do you play the file directly, in MediaMonkey?

We plan on-fly converting to streaming version of MP4 format, but this is quite complex issue and will not be in MM4.0 yet.

Hello.

I read with a android tablet, mm is only the dlna server, and the tablet is the player. I can't seek, even i read a complete wmv in a network drive. I don't try to copy the wmv directly in the tablet. But i can seek in a network drive or in the dlna server without conversion the other formats like avi, mp4 or mpg. I can't read mkv with the installed players in my tablet from the network drive.

If the seek in WMV files does not work even with WMP server, then it seems to be problem in the player (on the device). It should work the same way, as it works for other formats.

I know the problem come from the tablet or the tablet player, for that I ask you about avi or mp4 format.

OK. On-fly encoding to AVI is practically impossible, this format is not designed for streaming (player needs information from the header, that is known just after the whole conversion).
