When MM3 first came out, I posted this thread: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24853. After some back and forth, Jiri added a registry flag to override the max ipod filename length, and I've been using MM3 happily ever since. I just downloaded MM4 RC5, and it seems the registry no longer contains entries for portable devices, and the program is synching to the useless 4-character names again. The device supports 27 (31 less 4 for ".mp3"), but MM restricts it to 4. I can't sync my 160 GB ipod right now because it will delete and re-copy 20,000 songs just to change useful 27-char names into useless 4-char ones. I know this is because of some restrictive choices on the part of Apple when programming some built-in games (that I don't use), but I've chosen to use MM for years precisely because it typically avoids this sort of behavior.
Could a dev please look into this and possibly add back in an option or registry override again so that I can take back control over my iPod?

Re: iPod filename char limit
Bumping this - still using 3.x and really want to upgrade, but can't until this feature is fixed/changed. Anyone else care about this?

This option actually wasn't removed, so I wonder whether it couldn't be e.g. caused by some difference in device SN handling, which would result in MM reading from another registry key?
