please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync

please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
please help! since upgrading to the latest beta version of MM, my iTunes won't recognise my iPhone, won't sync and says I need to restore it, which will be a major task (it's now jailbroken with heaps of apps)
is there a way to have 4.0.5 MM AND still be able to get iTunes to recognise my device and sync it - or am I now stuffed?
thanks

Try cleaning your iPhone of tracks / playlists synced by MM (e.g. manually delete all tracks).
Then try syncing with iTunes.
btw, what build of MM did you sync with?

Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
thanks for the advice Rusty but it didn't work.
I deleted all the songs/playlists etc and reconnected to iTunes but it still won't recognize the device or sync to it
I also have a netbook where I've backed up my music - I don't have MM on that, so I tried syncing to that but got the same error message so now I'm pretty sure iTunes has detected that I've hooked up my iPhone to MM and installed something on the phone itself and won't sync
I can't believe I'm the first person this has happened to - all I did was install MM 4.0.5.1488 - beta version - nothing else.

Hi, you seem to be the first person this has happened to here. It is hard to say what could trigger it, but at first you should try the iPhone to the correct state.
To prevent from restoring I guess that following could help:
Download plugin into Total Commander called T-PoT.
You will be able to browse iPhone content by using Total Commander
Network Locations->[T-PoT]
go to /iTunes_Control/iTunes/ and delete file iTunesCDB
This could most probably help and iTunes no longer will want to restore it.
If you will able to get to the incorrect state again, then send us your iTunesCDB for analyze, thanks!

can I also use iPhone Browser to locate and delete that file? if so, which directory is it in? so far I can't find it, thanks!
Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Ludek, you're a genius! I found the file, deleted it and iTunes is back to normal, thanks so much
hope it might help someone else too

Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Yes it has also helped me thanks - I had a similar issue today using MM 1489 beta with my 3rd Gen 64GB ipod Touch (IOS 5.1.1 - and not jail broken).
Could not get Total Commander + plugin to see the device either, so downloaded and installed DiskAid and deleted the iTunesCDB file that way and it is now working fine.
I suspect the problem was that I had previously been using the iTunes MediaMonkey 4 plugin so already had it chocka with music via that source. Or it may have been due to the fact that MM crashed halfway through the first attempt to Sync, or possibly both of these
Excellent to have the ability to directly sync again !

Same here, Iphone 3GS jailroken 5.0.1 and iTunes 10.6.1.7; tried MM 4.0.5.1490, add and delete some music and then BAM! iTunes doesn't sync anymore.Ludek wrote:Hi, you seem to be the first person this has happened to here. with IphoneBrowser I go to /User/Media//iTunes_Control/iTunes/ and delete "iTunesCDB" file, now everything is working fine! Thanks Ludek.
But if I retry to transfer music with MM, the same problem comes back :/ Is it just me (and a bunch of other unlucky iphones/ipods) or we found a bug?

Massimo
Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Hmm, I cannot replicate, could you send me your iTunesCDB file so that I could find what iTunes doesn't like?
Before sending it please ensure that you also exhibits this with 1491, because there was one issue that could be a reason for this:

Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Seems my earlier post was a little premature - I get the same result as the last person, i.e. deleting the CDB file fixes the problem for iTunes (except of course you lose access to the synced music), but if you sync again with MediaMonkey the problem is back again. Tried doing the factory restore then using version 1491, but makes no difference ....same problem continues.
One thing I do notice though was that when MM used to sync ok (i.e. a while back), there used to be a significant pause/database rebuild afterwards when you first accessed the music on the device after a sync - that does not happen anymore, the music is instantly available. I can send a copy of the CDB file but where to ?
Details: ipod touch, 3rd Gen (not jailbroken), IOS 5.1.1, iTunes 10.6.1.7

Attach a link to the file or PM me it or email it to me to ls at this domain . Thx.
Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Looks like I too have the same issue. I'm running build 1491 with itunes 10.6.1.7 with IOS 5.1.1 on an ipod touch 3rd gen (not jail broken). I can now sync with MM but then iTunes no longer recognises the device until I delete the iTunesCDB file. On deleting the CDB file it works fine apart from neither iTunes or MM can see any files on the ipod touch. If I resync in iTunes then all music files are deleted from the device. If I resync in MM then iTunes no longer sees the device. I get dizzy just thinking about it.
P.S. thanks for an awesome product.

OK, so please send me the iTunesCDB file for analyze as I cannot replicate the issue.
Thx.
I have entered the issue to the bug tracking system as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9360

Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
Here are the CDB files:
This one is after Syncing a single Album to the Touch from MediaMonkey:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52154956/iTunesCDB_mm
Album is visible and playable on device, and MM can happily sync further music, but iTunes does not like it at all.
This one is after deleting above music (and CDB file so that iTunes is happy again) and then syncing the same Album from iTunes

Re: please help! I upgraded to 4.0.5 - now iTunes won't sync
A footnote to the above. The MediaMonkey sync only has issues on my iTouch 3rd gen. Have checked and it seems to work fine on my IPhone4S, and iPad2.
The only notable differences between them are device type, age and capacity (Touch 64GB, iPad 32GB, iPhone 16GB). Everything else is the same i.e. IOS (5.1.1), same iTunes, same MM, same PC doing the sync.
The actual error message if you want it is 'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "Brians iPod". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings.'
The issue for me is that my Touch is my music device of choice because of its capacity
