Auto-Synch -> Library shows incorrect destination

Post by Barry4679 »

MMW: 4.1.0.1662
MMA: 1.0.4.0168

I an auto-synching to an android tablet connected via usb cable.

In the device option in the tree that is shown when the device is attached:
In the Auto-Synch -> Library tab, it says that the destination is:
c:\Users\<my profile>\Music\ .... I have a Win 7 machine
But appears to write to c:\Users\<My profile>\My Music\Music\

Did you check the Destination for the different Types listed?

What do you mean by "type"?

I am in the Auto-Synch-> Library for my device on MMW.

There is a single Destination control.

It says c:\Users\<my profile>\Music

I have no such directory.

I can see that MM has written to c:\Users\<my profile>\My Music\Music, which is a directory which does exist.

Which OS you run?

I have just tested this (using WiFi sync) with the newest MMW/MMA builds.

My configured location in MMW ([Auto-sync --> Library] -> Destination box) is:
C:\Users\Ludek-NB\Music\
and the track is uploaded as
C:\Users\Ludek-NB\Music\storage\emulated\0\Music\Unknown artist-Unknown Album (8.8.2012 112420)\14-Bhiefer-Fletnicky.mp3
where
\storage\emulated\0\Music\Unknown artist-Unknown Album (8.8.2012 112420)\14-Bhiefer-Fletnicky.mp3
is the path on the device.

So the bug that I see is that MMA should send the path without the storage prefix (\storage\emulated\0\) to MMW, this way it would be copied to
C:\Users\Ludek-NB\Music\Music\Unknown artist-Unknown Album (8.8.2012 112420)\14-Bhiefer-Fletnicky.mp3

And probably the default location in MMW should be changed from 'C:\Users\Ludek-NB\Music\' to 'C:\Users\Ludek-NB\' so that there is not Music folder twice in the resulted path.

Tracked as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11348

EDIT: In case of USB sync the storage prefix is not used (as expected)

I think that what you are looking at isn't quite what I am reporting.

I am using USB synch.

I was only wanting to synch music from PC->Device .... further to that, I would not want tracks to be coming from the device for fear that it would overwrite my flac tracks with some transcoded thing ... probably not a possibility, but just saying that any suggestion that something will be written to my PC is cause for concern to me, and probably others.

In Options|PortableDeviceSynch|GoogleNexus7 at AutoSynch->Library I have Auto_Synch check box deselected. I thought that this made me safe.

In the Nexus 7 node, which appears in the tree when I attach by USB, the AutoSynch to library checkbox was checked ... ?!! ... shouldn't the above settings have meant that it was unchecked? Anyway, I didn't notice this.

I had selected some albums in AutoSynch->Device using the AlbumArtist node. ... These were albums, not playlists.

When I pressed Auto_synch is says that it wants to write to the PC .... unexpected, and alarming.

I get the Auto_synch (Confirmation) dbox, asking me to confirm.

Path Device is shown as blank ... so I can't reassure myself that MM is not going to screw up my tracks.

It wants to write "Playlists" to my PC for each of the "albums" that I previously synched to the device.

The only thing that I think that I may have done wrong is to get mixed up how to synch. I tried triggering a wireless synch from MMA. It did part of the job, but failed with most. I then attached the devive via usb. Windows threw up its Autoplay suggestions, and I selected the MediaMonkey Synch option. ... This didn't seem to do anything, so I went ito the Nexus 7 device open in the tree, and pressed Auto_synch there.

The destination that is shown on the screen with the Auto-Synch button is c:\Users\<my profile>\Music
But it actually wrote to c:\Users\<my profile>\My Music\Music

If I press the browse icon alongside Destination the directory selecting dbox opens positioned at "My Music" even though the the Destination entry control shows "Music"

I think I understand,
actually the
c:\Users\<my profile>\My Music\
shown in explorer is the exactly same folder as
c:\Users\<my profile>\Music\
shown in Total Commander.

So the file
c:\Users\<my profile>\My Music\Music\Track.mp3 (in Windows Explorer)
is the same file as
c:\Users\<my profile>\Music\Music\Track.mp3 (in Total Commander)

I believe that this is the root of the misunderstanding.

Otherwise if you haven't checked the checkbox on the [Auto-Synch -> Library]
[x] Auto-sync new files and playlists from the device to the PC
then no files would be synced/copied to that folder from the device.

I guess that you might check the corresponding checkbox in MMA -> Options -> Wi-Fi sync -> Sync Location/Settings -> <storage> -> [x] Auto-sync device content

Thanks, I now see one name is a W7 Library name, and the other is a storage location. Hadn't come across libraries before. Nice, but initially confusing.

I think that it would be better if MMW displayed the actual folder path, rather than a path using the library name. According the FAQ quoted above a library is a collection of locations, not a specific location itself. ... I think.
