Volume analysis not preserved when using auto-conversion

Post by nohitter151 »

I have found that when using auto-conversion on my iPod and iPhone to convert FLAC files to mp3 on the fly, the volume analysis isn't preserved. The original mp3 files play back with a nice level volume, but any track that was converted from FLAC is much louder than the others. I have track and album level values calculated for all of the FLAC and mp3 tracks in my library, this has nothing to do with "Level volume when synchronizing".

Has anyone else observed this on an iPod, iPhone, or any other device?

It would be nice to get confirmation on this before I report it as a bug.

That is not bug at all FLAC is Lossless Format and MP3 is Lossy format, so leveling info would be invalid after convert.

So the volume analysis numbers can't just be copied over from the FLAC tracks into the iPod DB?

Exactly, it needs to be recalculated. In 95% it would be same but it is not actual/true value.
