Hi! And thanks for the MediaMonkey Software. Being an avid fan (and somebody who hates iTunes), I recently came across two small, but annoying bugs in MM's MP3 tagging.
1. MM writes the "Year" tag twice in MP3 files. MM itself ignores these and shows only one year, i.e. "2000". Other MP3 software, however, displays "2000/2000", which is a bit annoying. If you use "MP3Tag's" option "Extended tags", it will actually show two "Year" tags. Any reason for MM's behavior?
2. When one does add lyrics to one MP3 file, MM writes "XXX" as header to the "Unsyncedlyrics" tag. To my knowledge, the ID3 specs ask for an ISO 639-2 compliant acronym for the lyrics' language, i.e. "eng". With "XXX", iTunes won't recognize the lyrics although they are in the file. Worse than that: By default, MM's latest version 3.1.0.1256 replaces the correct language headers with "XXX" - just when you READ the lyrics (and, by the way: also adds a second "Year" tag).

1. This is done for compatibility's sake:

2. So it would be better to prefix each lyrics with ENG for english, even though about 30% of MM users don't even use the english language?

Thanks for the hint. I checked the forum for related topics, but missed that one.nohitter151 wrote:1. This is done for compatibility's sake:

As it seems: yes! To be honest: I am not aware of any media/MP3 software that uses the language info. Like I stated, however, other software (like iTunes) does not recognize lyrics if you use your generic "XXX" prefix. Since this info is not visible in most software, basically, you can write what you want in there - provided it is ISO 639-2 conformant. To my knowledge, iTunes and MP3Tag write "eng" as default.nohitter151 wrote:2. Edit: Ideally, MM (and, of course, other MP3 taggers) would allow to set the language manually. However, as I pointed out, there appears to be no soft-/hardware that actually uses the language prefix. But it would be nice if MM wouldn't CHANGE present prefixes in the "UNSYNCEDLYRICS" tag. Instead, it should keep them when re-writing the tag.

I do agree it would be nice if you could specify the language of the lyrics.
