Error when burning MP3 CD from playlists

Post by nic2873 »

Hello MM.

First forum I've ever used so bear with me...

I'm having problems when burning MP3 CDs from playlists. I right click on the playlist and select 'Send to... CD/DVD (Burn)
Once I've selected my options I select burn -
The progress bar goes through 'Burning ... (Copying albulm art to track tags... XXX.mp3)' for each track
And then an error window pops up with 'Burning was not successful: The layout could not be set.'
Intestingly it would appear that nothing has been written to the CD-R as I can subsequently use it from Nero or from MM to burn audio CD's.

I've seen this problem reported on previous versions of MM but it looks as if the problem was resolved in later versions? I can burn audio CD's fine and also can burn MP3 CDs when I select an album (i.e. not a playlist). Initially I thought it was my CD writer but I get the exact same error when using a brand new external DVD writer. The CD's are standard TDK CD-R80 and I've tried several.

I have the log files from DebugView and the hpCDE.log (how do I send you these?)

My system is.. WinXP SP3, Centrino 1GB RAM, 1 internal DVD RW, 1 external DVD RW, 2 HD (C:/ - encypted with TrueCrypt, D: not encypted), MediaMonkey 3.1.1.1261

Thanks...

Hello, first of all download the newest beta version from here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 34522&sd=d

If the issue still exists with the latest beta then I would need to see your debug log:

Generate debug log using the DbgView app
- Download the DbgView application from: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... gview.mspx
- Execute DbgView.
- Run MediaMonkey (1270 debug) and you will see the log being generated to the DbgView app window.
- Try to Burn the CD
- When it fails then Save the content in DbgView app to a file (Ctrl+S) and upload it by using a free service like RapidShare or YouSendIt.com
- attach the link to the shared file here.

Thank you.

Hi

I am using this thread because i have very same 'Burning was not successful: The layout could not be set.' error message. Please excuse if i should be in Forum Help area.

I just want to burn an MP3 disc of the one artist with a folder for each album !. Just like it looks on the Node tree basically. Shouldn't be too hard really. I've done it as one great long list without a folder for each album so i know the burner and the data are OK. I changed some settings without any improvement.

May also relate to thread
"subdirectory for each playlist type" error. because i tried that and got no improvement there either.

looks like the monkey was trained to be a digital library and is struggling to burn as people want judging by the large number of issues raised here. maybe an overhaul needed in that area.

I guess i should download the newest beta version first as montioned here. It better not muck with my monkey cos i'm no tech-head.

Hi,
millions of users uses MediaMonkey and for 99% of them it works fine.
There are always people like you for which something doesn't work as expected for various reasons.

In order to help you I would need to see your debug log:

Generate debug log using the DbgView app
- Download the DbgView application from: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... gview.mspx
- Execute DbgView.
- Run MediaMonkey (1277 debug) and you will see the log being generated to the DbgView app window.
- Try to Burn the CD
- When it fails then Save the content in DbgView app to a file (Ctrl+S) and upload it by using a free service like RapidShare or YouSendIt.com
- attach the link to the shared file here.

Thank you.

Another questions that would halp me to pinpoint your trouble:
1. Does the burning always fails for you or it is related only to the subset of tracks? i.e. if you burn just one MP3 track, does it fail?
2. Can you burn successfuly by using another application? If not then drive firmware update often helps.

Ludek

Now using v1277

Debug log at : http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9429 ... f6e8ebb871

I can burn 'CD' only fine.

Yesterday i could burn the tracks as MP3 in one long list but get no 'Album Folders' as i wanted (i have the discs to prove it). Also i took 'copy to' in windows and got same burn result. Thus i figured the data (songs) and hardware were fine.

Today i cannot even do that (only tried MM today). I don't know. I'm lost in my own confusion. :(

many thanks if you can help.

Taknks, I will look into the log,
but if you cannot burn also by using the embedded windows' burner or any other burning app then I guess you will need to try to update your CD/DVD drive firmware or replace the drive.

Hello,

Apologies for the delay since my original post, I have been away for work a lot recently...

I have tried the latest Debug version (1287). I can burn Audio CDs from MM but not data CDs. The associated debug log and hpCDE.log can be found here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/304654562/L ... s.zip.html

Hope this helps!

By the way - I've also noticed that the files that I tried to burn to the data (MP3) CD have been duplicated, i.e. I have now got several copies of these music files on my disk now. Is this related or just a symptom of the CD burn crashing half way through?

Nic, thank you for the log!

Studing the log I have seen one problem that it might be a reason for the failure. It looks that you ticked
[x] Burn Album Art into Track folders
checkbox that is unchecked by default, don't you?

And I have seen in our code that there isn't a check whether the image file really exists on your HDD.
So my speculation is that there is a deadlink to a JPG or PNG album art file and therefore the burning fails.
If it is true then I will open an issue and I am bout to fix it so that such a dead links would be automatically removed prior to burning.

Could you confirm my speculation by unchecking the checkbox and see whether the burn process without Album Art files passes?

Thank you.

Nic, I now reproduced it myself using the steps I noticed, tracked as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6166 and will be fixed in the next build.

So I guess you experienced the same problem.

Hi Ludek,

Thanks for the quick response!

I have confirmed the problem by going through and fixing all the links to album art in the files and then the CD burns fine.

This problem has come about because (before I knew about MM!) I used Windows Media Player which creates files like 'AlbumArtSmall.jpg'. Clearly MM found these when I changed over to MM and then I deleted them from windows explorer because I didn't like small versions of the album art becoming the default (they are poor quality when displayed in MM). Hence the broken links...

Is there anyway to check for (and remove) any other such broken links?

Thanks again,

Nic

I now have mask working properly thanks to 'MP3 Folders' thread i found from a search. It seems my problem very similar to nic2873, so maybe i should try the Album Art Tagger to remove broken album art links and then i can get Album Art into folders.

can someone tell me Which process to use from that script ?

sorry if it's supposed to be obvious it's all new to me.

thanks. :)
