[Subject was: 998 - Library Configuration Help error]

Topic "Library Configuration" says

. Click the Advanced button in the 'Add Folders' dialog,
. or the File > Options > Library menu.

Neither exists. Better would be

. Click the Tools > Options... > Library menu item or the
. File > Add/Rescan Tracks to the Library... > Options button

Also, on Options > Library > Infer track properties, "Filenames + Path" should read "... Filenames + Foldernames", since path (e.g. on Track List) means Filepath i.e. includes filename. EDIT: Tracked at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6803

PS Is there a better way of stopping this forum posting form from losing leading spaces?

Use CODE and you can format text like you want.

Showing non-code lines as CODE is confusing.

I agree, but sometimes you need to do that and phpBB solve this in that way by using CODE :(
I think that something like this in dedicated Topics will not make any confusion:

Code: Select all

Here is example of My Tree:
------------------------
- Library
 + Hardisk 1
 - Hardisk 2
  + Documents and Setting
  + Program Files
  + ......
 + Hardisk 3

Fixed in 1256 (removed from Help).

Persists on 1256.

That's not inaccurate. Maybe a little redundant, but not inaccurate.

Folders would be less clear as some geographies use the term directories instead of folders.

Filename is redundant as path includes the filename, but I think it serves its purpose as more people will understand it this way.

Surely MM policy is to use folders not directories.

No. Filepath includes the filename - path may be only the folder path.

Huh??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_(computing)
Path includes the filename as well, thus using Filenames + Path is technically redundant. I think in the context its used its a better option. Path should be used as its term used throughout MediaMonkey and the addition of Filenames is good as it better shows what it will do in comparison with the Filenames option only. I suggest things remain as they are.

However I do think there is one inconsistency. If Filenames is plural then Path should be written in plural as well.

Path includes the filename as well
Except when it does not: "A path, the general form of a filename or of a directory name, specifies a unique location in a file system"

If you believe that Path excludes Filename then Path + Filename is correct. If you believe Path includes Filename then Filename is redundant in Path + Filename.

As you seem to support the former I don't know why you seek a change in terminology as Path is the term used in MediaMonkey.
