1183 Disc rip problem [6882]

Post by chrisjj »

I ripped a CD and on track 15 of 18 MM gave an error dialog reporting a "decoding" fault and suggesting a possible "DRM restriction" (sorry, no screenshot). This content would appear to be in error.

Also, after this, the drive disappeared from the MM tree and Explorer, until OS restart.

EDIT(TC) Tracked at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6882

I have the exact same problem. I could not find the drive through device manager or by adding new device (or whatever the heck its called in Vista now)
I am running 1183 on Vista 64 machine 4GB RAM IntelCore2 CP 2.4 GHZ 700GB HD with 280 GB Free.
If I reboot the machine, the CD/DVD shows up again. I am able to rip 1 or more CDs to the hard drive, but inevitably it will lock up and eventually come up with the aformentioned error.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

:-)

I forgot to mention that I am running Gold lifetime if that makes a difference. I also neglected to mention that I was trying to rip the CD to flac files at comp level 5.
Thanks again

Does this seem to happen with some specific discs or does it happen with any discs? In any case try creating a debug log for this event.

I ran the debug Dbgview program from Microsoft. As soon as I initiated the program, the thing spilled out over 40000 lines stating
"[4980] Invalid parameter passed to C runtime function."
It would continue this until I shut the debugger off. What I found is I have another program causing that. I disabled that program and as of this point I have not been able to reproduce the rip problem. I have ripped 10 more CDs without issue.

@chrisjj
Do you happen to use Logitech Slimdevices Squeezeserver? This is the program that I shut down and all has been OK. I posted a message on that forum regarding the issue and am waiting for a response from someone.

I thought I remember reading in this forum that there were other Squeezebox users here. Has anyone else had this issue in the past?

lowlander - thanks for the reply. The problem was not specific any particular disc. I think I may be on to something as noted above. Thanks for telling me to use the debugger. I wouldnt have known about the other program if not for you. THANKS!

I have had this problem on numerous occasions right "out of the box"- submitted a support ticket, but never really got a satisfactory answer and finally gave up and suffered with tryng to use MM. The issue is intermittent, but when it does occur, always the same error message about DRM restrictions and the drive disappears from the hardware list until re-boot. So frustrating that I'm about to give up on MM
