Since the upgrade to MM4, I've found that M4A files that have been ReplayGain leveled via another program (such as foobar2000) do not have their leveling data read until they've been volume analyzed again in MM4.
My usual workflow is to rip from CD to a lossless format, then from that, create a M4A or MP3 version for use on devices where space is limited. For this second step, I usually use foobar2000 and the Nero encoder for M4A files. Tracks are always ReplayGained after conversion.
I first noticed this when certain newer tracks were always playing at a blaring volume compared to surrounding tracks in a playlist. Further inspection revealed that all affected tracks were M4A converts. Checking properties in MM4, I found that there were apparently no leveling data. I then checked the files in MP3Tag and Winamp and both reported that the data were present. Running volume analysis on the files results in the leveling data now being present in MM4 properties, but I can find no difference in the tags before and after.
Files with volume normalization via the ITunNORM tag seem to be recognized, though. Also, ReplayGain tags in M4A files were recognized in MM3.

I just re-attempted to load some newly-converted files in build 1460 (which listed this issue as fixed). I'm running into the exact same issue still, with Leveling listed as "not calculated" on M4A files that were ReplayGain scanned via foobar2000. Is there anything else I have to do to get such RG results recognized (such as manually rescanning the library)?

Exactly, you have to rescan library, because files were imported without these problematic values before and they are not in the library yet.Ivrus wrote:I just re-attempted to load some newly-converted files in build 1460 (which listed this issue as fixed). @Mipi, it sounds like these files are new and thus weren't in the Library.

Hmm, if so, please upload me again one track, for which ReplayGain is not recognized by MM, thanks.
Re: ReplayGain tags of some M4A files not recognized [#8784]
I went and forced a complete rescan of tags (I already had automatic rescanning on MM start enabled, but this was apparently not enough). Most M4A files now have RG data, but all of the most recent conversions (only about five albums) were unrecognized despite using the same codec as the newest of the now-working files (Nero 1.5.4.0). This made me suspect a change in how foobar2000 created tags to be the reason for the shift (I'd moved from 1.1.5 to 1.1.7 around that time).
An update of foobar2000 from 1.1.7 to 1.1.10 results in new conversions having RG data properly recognized in build 1460. I went back and rescanned the remaining unrecognized albums, and they now show up. I'm inclined to now think of it as a foobar bug rather than a MM bug.
