Character display - umlaut [#9240]

Post by flinder74 »

When I download podcasts from a german radio station http://www.dradio.de all umlauts (ä. ö, ü, ß) are tagged wrong in the describtion and the filename. This only happend with the podcasts of this radio station and only in MediaMonkey. There was no problem using iTunes for handling the podcasts. This effects starts, when I switched to MediaMonkey. But only with all the podcasts of this radio station! There is no umlaut problem with other podcasts from other sources.

Specific rss feed:
http://www.dradio.de/rss/podcast/sendungen/marktplatz/
(The same thing happens with other feeds from this radio station.)

Example:
Wrong Filename and wrong describtion in the id-tags:
Marktplatz 'Gut verpackt ist halb gedmmt'.mp3

It should be in the following way with the filename and the describtion in the tags:
Marktplatz 'Gut verpackt ist halb gedämmt'.mp3

When I download the same broadcast directly from their website and open the tags with MP3tag everything is ok. Here the link to the original podcast file on their server:
http://ondemand-mp3.dradio.de/file/drad ... 595548.mp3

It seems to be in the way that MediaMonkey names the file with the incorrect encoding of the text he gets somewhere (from the file?, from the feed?). So the name of the file and the title in the tags are wrong.
Is there a possibility to try something in the settings? Is this a special thing with this podcast feed or maybe ths is a bug?

Thanks for your support!

My system: Win7 prof SP1, MediaMonkey Gold 4.0.3.1476
Plug-In: Lyrics and Comment Viewer 2.2

Hello,

may be I see the same issue with my podcasts and MM 4.0.3.1476.

There are some Podcasts, which titles are shown with asiatic characters after syncing with my Sandisk sansa Clip+ (SD-Card) in MTP mode. The titles in the MM-database looks OK.

Here is the URL of the feed:
http://www.br-online.de/podcast/kalenderblatt/cast.xml

For example this podcast:
http://cdn-storage.br.de/mir-live/MUJIu ... cheint.mp3

Transfering the original MP3 via drag&drop to the sansa clip+ (SD-Card) works great without any asian characters.

Inspecting the broken MP3 (transfered by MM) with foobar on the sansa, dosn't show any strange character in the title. Adding some characters to the title and storing, is fixing the problem.

Activating or deactivating "On download, tag episodes based on data from Podcast feed" before downloading the podcasts has no influence - the title will have asian characters.

It's still the same with Beta V4.0.5.1481 :(

I believe this should be solved with http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9240.

I completely deleted the podcast and downloaded again - than transfered to my sansa ...... some titles are still completely corrupted (all of them contain "umlaut").

The tags of the manualy downloaded podcasts are perfect and are working correct on the sansa.
I don't understand why MM is manipulating the tags?

It's working for me. Both Title and Filename show umlauts as expected. Are you sure you're checking for new episodes published after you upgraded to 4.0.5.1481? I myself had unsubscribed from the Podcast and resubscribed to check for you and it worked as expected.

Yes - and I repeated ist just now (MTP mode, with external SD-card of sansa).
Deletetd the podcast with all episodes.
Closed MM and reopend it.
Copied the podcast URL (browser)
Insert the podcast in MM -> MM is downloading the episodes.
Manually started Auto-sync to sansa external SD-Card

It's still the same

So I started a lot of testing with the File Explorer (Mobile device).

Manualy copied the podcast episode to sansa SD-Card => title ist corrupt.
Manualy copied the podcast episode to sansa internal Memory => title ist OK !!!!!!

Let MM sync the podcast episode to sansa internal Memory => title ist OK !!!!!!

BUT - downloading the original podcast episode as MP3 file and transfereing to the sansa - the titles are OK on internal Memory and the external SD-Card.

So it depends on how MM is creating the MP3 podcast episode AND if it is transferrred to internal or external Memory.

This is very confusing.

OK - it would be easy to change to MSC mode, but I like the feature syncing song rating from sansa to MM; and MTP seems more stable toward memory demage (my old player dies for this).

Thanks Dieter

But do the Podcasts titles and filenames show correctly in MediaMonkey, which is the bug fixed.

In MM filenames and titles are shown correctly.

This happens with the above cited podcast URL (other I haven't testet).

In the error case, the whole title is unreadable (not only the "umlaut" character).

But I see a little difference between the new Beta and V4.0.3.
With V4.0.4 MP3tag reported a "bad ID3V2.3" ... no more with the new Beta.

So in MediaMonkey everything is working as expected, the problem is when the files with umlauts are synced to the Sansa (with MediaMonkey)?

I don't know ... anyway MM is changing or recreating the downloaded podcast before storing them in MyMusik ...
Transfering this MP3 via drag&drop on PC to the sansa shows the same unreadable titles.

Transfering the manually downloded MP3 to the sansa works well (see above).

In the meantime I continued some testing.

I canceled all subscriptions of podcast in MM and deleted all downloaded podcast episodes.

Afterward I downloaded the podcasts (URL see above) with Thunderbird, and transfered them with MM to the sansa clip+ external SD-card => all titles are correct, also those with "Umlauts".

So, the transfering is not the cause for the unreadable titles.
