Columns changing since version 4.0.3.1476 [#9560]

Post by CM »

(had this placed in beta section first, oops)

When updating version 4.0.3.1476 (Gold user on Vista 64bit) to 4.0.5.1496 I noticed that after choosing a playlist the column browser wasn't using the columns I usually use. In browser column I use Artist / Album / Title. These columns I use in collections "Entire Library", Music Video, as well as in "Music".

I looked in the forum and found viewtopic.php?f=6&t=61730so I made sure that every playlist had every View As or Search Box were using Music.
This seem to help as the playlist would have those three columns in the column browser.

However, on the next start of Mediamonkey the columns in column browser weren't right again. There were only 2 columns and not three. All the playlists still had Music in the View As/Search Box. Manually adding the third column to the column browser helped but didn't make all the playlists automatically have 3 columns too.
The third column was also not present in the Collection mode and when I added the third column in let's say Entire Library and then do the same in collection Music I would go back to Entire Library and the just added 3rd column was gone again.

Btw, closing of Mediamonkey was done by clicking right top square as well as by File, Exit to make sure I closed the programme in the right way.

It looks like Mediamonkey only remembers the right setting for the time the programme is active. When you close it down and start it up again it forgets one column.

Thinking and hoping it would be solved in 4.0.6.1501 I've installed but experienced the same problem. The programme doesn't seem to remember I want to use 3 columns in column browser for Music and Entire Library.

I've done a clean install too, only kept the ini file and database because I don't want to lose my playlists and such. This hasn't helped either.

Are there more having this problem? Any help in solving this problem is appreciated and if extra info is needed just let me know.

Settings are remembered after proper close of MediaMonkey.

Hello,

I have the same problem. I am using 4.0.6 1501 (Windows 7 64 bit)

Fresh install.

The columns aren't remembered and revert to a default. I have tried closing using the FILE->EXIT. Still doesn't work. Changing collections also reverts back to a default column layout.

I am talking about the COLUMN BROWSER in case that isn't clear.

Thanks.

EDIT - Ok, I think I know what's going on here. MM will remember the column browser settings but IF one of those columns is set to TITLE, it freaks out and reverts back to a default. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, I can confirm this. Strangely enough though this doesn't happen to all collections though.

I've used Title in the collections and after closing (and waiting for MM to be out of Task Manager as well) and then reopening the following occurred:
Entire Library - column title is gone
Available Tracks - column title is still there
Music - column title is gone
Classical Music - column title is gone
Audiobook - column title is still there
Music Video - column title is gong

All the following happened with title column in Music collection not being present.

Strangely enough in the playlists I made (based on collection Music) the column title was still there the first time after reopening MM.

However, I closed MM with the cursor on/chosing a Autoplaylist. After opening MM again the column "title" was gone (just like in collection Music where it's based upon). Then I chose Collection Music to see if the title column was still gone and it was. Going back to the same autoplaylist I opened MM with and the title column was back again.

Then closed MM with cursor on/chosing a regular Playlist. After opening MM again the column "title" was still there. Then going to an Autoplaylist and the "title" column was still there. The title column was still not used in the Music collection.

Next time opening MM (with cursor on same autoplaylist as I closed MM with) the column Title was gone again. Moved cursor to another autoplaylist and title column was there again. Went back to autoplaylist I opened MM with and title column was back again.

Next time opening MM with a regular playlist (same one as I closed with) and the column title was gone again. Chose another regular playlist and title column was present. Went back to regular playlist I opened MM with and title column was there again

Seems like the column Title doesn't seem to work together with some collections; the last version it worked properly for me was 4.0.3.1476

Just to make clear: I closed MM the proper way and with title I mean the Title column as used in Column Browser

Thanks Lovelyman and Lowlander, I'm glad to see it confirmed as a bug so the crew can try and fix it

From the bug description:
If you set the Title Column to be shown in the Column Browser it will be missing on restart of MediaMonkey for certain Collections like Entire Library.
This problem doesn't only exist when restarting MediaMonkey but also during the present running of the programme when e.g.: you change from one playlist to another playlist.

Playlist one consists of Artist Column / Album Column / Title Column
Playlist two consists of Artist Column / Album Column / Album Artist Column

It doesn't matter whether the playlists are Autoplaylist (criteria: search: Music) or normal playlist (criteria: view as: Music)

When moving cursor to / choosing playlist two the "Title Column" disappears and in playlist two only Artist Column & Album Column remain.

The not working Choosing Title Column makes a mess of all the playlists which are based on criteria "Music" and probably most other collections too.

Not sure this has any effect for trying to solve this bug but thought it wise to report.

Hopefully this bug can be be solved as planned in version 4.1 as it's a pain to use MediaMonkey now without it being possible to use the Title Column

I still have this problem.
I use 3 columns: artist, album and title,
but when adding the 3rd column and choosing title, the column is gone after clicking on 'podcasts', for example, and returning to 'Music'.

It's really, really annoying, and I've even bought the lifetime license :(

Edit: Win7 64bit, MM 4.0.7.1511

There have been Column Browser bug fixes in MediaMonkey 4.1 (available as beta in the Windows Beta Testing forum).
