Creative Zen: how to transfer ("synch") playlists?

Post by chrisjj »

When I try to transfer a playlist to the Zen using Send to..., MM transfers all the tracks in the playlist but not the playlist itself. Anyone know a workaround? Thanks.

Do you have the autosync options of the device setup to sync playlists?? I haven't used send to in a while but the last time I used it, it did sync the playlist, but my autosync options were setup. I'm not sure if that makes a difference but you should try it to see if it works for you. Also, make sure you set the directory to /My Playlists/ or MM will put it where the Zen can't use it.

Ah! Drilling down I find MM had set it to /Playlists/ . I'd assumed the default config was model-aware, but seems not.

Your change fixed it! Many thanks.

For the record, no. So thankfully no evidence manual sync is sensitive to autosync options.

When you look at the Zen from Media Explorer or Windows Explorer can you find the directory /Playlists? Are the playlists listed there??

I tend to use autosync because 95% of my songs appear on more than one playlist and MM has not figured out how to send to without destroying any secondary playlists. Since it only has to update any recent changes it usually takes less than 1/2 hour to autosync.

In ME yes. In WE, no... 'cos it doesn't show the Zen... today ;)

No. I guess ME does not recognise misplaced playlists.

Oooer. What's a secondary playlist? I wonder if I can afford to lose it.

If I have a song that is listed in three playlists and I manually try to sync the first playlist, MM will remove the song from all three playlists but when it completes the sync it will only add the track to the manually synced playlist not the other two that it removed the track from. When you autosync it will add the tracks back to all the playlists in the autosync list. This way I ensure I get all the songs in my playlists as I created them. It's very annoying to be listening to a playlist and expect a song and it's nowhere to be found. Especially since Creative has not made it easy to change playlists directly from the player.

I have asked MM not to remove old content, so hope I'm safe!

Indeed Poor!

I have found no way at all of adding a missing track, except at the end.

Can you point me to the bug report for this? Thanks.

Thanks. It is rather disappointing to see none of the reports have been responded to by Devs.

Whoops! /My Playlists/ doesn't work - it puts the playlist in the ZEN root (as seen on MM tree) and so never seen on ZEN. I think what was meant is \My Playlists\ (i.e. back-slashes).
