Need Song Suggestions - Bad Cover Versions...
For laughs, I'm trying to compile bad - or to be kind, let's say, unusual - cover versions of songs that are sung by an artist in a totally different style than the original.
For example, I currently have Frank Sinatra singing "Just the Way You Are" and "Mrs. Robinson" as well as Paul Anka singing "Eyes Without a Face," "Eye of the Tiger," "Jump" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Of course Tom Jones singing "Kiss"...any other suggestions? The more funny and offbeat, the better!

Check out anything by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - they cover everything from Billy Joel and Elton John to country music and traditional Jewish songs with a Pop-Punk sound.

Oh, I'm definitely doing that...but I'd also like the opinions of other MM users, because it's an interesting topic to discuss and have some fun!Lowlander wrote:A Google search might also give you good results.

I loooooove these types of songs, and the search on the internet for novelty/unusual tunes led me to discover the mp3 format and in turn, MediaMonkey. My favorites are "I Will Survive", the disco anthem, sung in Hindi, and "These Boots Were Made for Walking" in Quebec French. But I have lots more. Oh, and Ella Fitzgerald singing "These Boots....". SUPER swinging and wild! Ah, and "These Boots..." by Loretta Lynn. And James Brown's hit, "I Feel Good", sung in a Chinese dialect by Takura Seng.
Paul Anka made a whole album called "Rock Swings"

Most local language covers of English songs are pretty awful too.

You can try the following albums:
In a Metal Mood by Pat Boone. "Highlights" include "Crazy Train", "Panama", "Stairway to Heaven", and "Enter Sandman"
Golden Throats from Rhino Records. There are multiple volumes, with the first one including William Shatner's "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", Leonard Nimoy's "Proud Mary", and Andy Griffith's "House of the Rising Sun".
Rebuild the Wall by Luther Wright and the Wrongs. Pink Floyd as bluegrass. It's actually not bad, in its own way.
Objects of Fantasy: The Music of Pink Floyd by David Palmer and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is just really painful orchestral versions of familiar Floyd tunes. "Run Like Hell" in particular, comes out really badly.
Let It Be by Laibach. The entire Beatles album, as performed by an Industrial band. "Get Back" is particularly menacing. Also from this artist: their Industrial cover of "Jesus Christ Superstar", from their album, .Jesus Christ Superstars.
Stairways to Heaven (The Money or the Gun) a collection of "Stairway" covers, including the Rolf Harris version.
Some random cover tracks:
"These Boots Are Made for Walking" as performed by Crispin Hellion Glover (played the father in the first "Back to the Future" movie, and played the lead in the remake of "Willard"). From his truly bizarre album, Big Problem Does Not Equal the Solution. The Solution = Let It Be.
"Stairway to Heaven" as performed by Dolly Parton. From her album, Halos & Horns
"Eleanor Rigby" as performed by Aretha Franklin. She turns it into first-person, singing that she's Eleanor Rigby. From her Greatest Hits album.
