MM2 to MM3 Database Update Problem

Hi All,

I took the plunge last weekend to upgrade from MM2 to MM3. Everything went well except that my previous library wasn't imported. I've tried using the dbupgrade manual upgrade process, but that hasn't worked either.

I've been using MediaMonkey for years and possibly have a 'messy' install. For example, my MM2 database sits in a sub-directory of the MediaMonkey Program Files directory called 'data', and the .ini file sits in the main MediaMonkey Program Files folder.

I've tried rolling back to MM2, which was able to locate the old library database with no intervention, and rolling forwards again, but that didn't work either.

Any help would be much appreciated! (I contacted tech support a week ago, but nothing back yet!)

Try a File -> Maintain Database on your old DB. (If you haven't tried this already)

Another thing-If you happen to have uninstalled MM3 it is possible that your GOLD License info was lost. Just happened to me while setting up. Redo the License after you redo MM2 as cleanly as you can. Then set up MM3 and it should import everything from the old database (it did for me).
BTW: If you are installing 'Skin' updates, make sure that you check Override Windows Themes-gave me fits until I discovered that one.

Hi. Tried rolling back to MM2, running the Maintain Library command, and reinstalling MM3. Still no joy. I've not had any issues with the Gold license getting lost. Guess I'll try reinstalling MM2 from scratch, restoring the database, and then upgrading...

I have the exact same issue. I've been using MM for years and my MM2 database is also in Program Files/MediaMonkey/Data/ and it won't upgrade. I guess I'm going back to MM2 for now too.

These problems with upgrading on non-standard database locations are what I feared and for this reason (plus all the bug reports) I am still reluctant to try the upgrade, despite having a lifetime license.

I have the actual music files sitting on a NAS, and the database located there too, and run three networked PCs with MM2 installed on each, all running from the same single database.

I am wondering if reverting to the standard installation on one PC then doing the upgrade then reconfiguring back to the network model, will this avoid the problem?

Interested to hear comments as I really want to start experiencing all the improvements I read about.

I managed to get my old DB into MM3 format by backing it up, completely uninstalling the monkey, installing MM2 afresh, and then upgrading to MM3. Bit of a pain, but I'm happy now!

Which version of MM2 did you install afresh? Where did you put the MM2 backed up database? Back into the Program Files/MediaMonkey/Data folder?

Hi. I backed up the database to my desktop (just dumped a copy there) and reinstalled MM2 v2.5.5.998 which I downloaded from FileHippo.com. After the install I moved my backed up database into 'My Music\MediaMonkey' which I guess is the default directory for newer versions of MM2. When I then upgraded to MM3 the database upgrade ran fine.

Not sure if it helped at all, but before reinstalling MM2 I completely deleted the MediaMonkey directory in Program Files - just to make sure the install was clean.

Odd don't you think that those of us who have used MM for years are the ones that can't upgrade easily? Guess that's the price of loyalty!

I didn't know that the MM2 database had to go into 'My Music\MediaMonkey'. I guess that was the new location for fresh installs. I think I started off with MM1 and before that, it had another name. I love Media Monkey and am so happy MM3 is working with my old database now. The import took a while, my MM2 mdb file was nearly 50MB.
