I've been hearing commercials on the sirius radio about carbonite.com online backup service. They give you 1 month free, then $50 US per year for unlimited backups. would you do this?
I have about 300Gb that i run backups on now. Most of which is music
online backups?

looks like an interesting service, tho not necessarily well suited to backing up music it seems.

Have a look at this: Mp3tunes.
Not necessarily recommending it, but it looks a lot cheaper.

thats pretty cool too, they even an a programable api that might be usable via script/plugin.
would be sweet to be able to backup/restore and stream directly with MM.

compression
does compressing the file eg: .zip or .rar degrade the audio file as Mp3 does, or it is ok?
and what if your house burns down? then what good would the external HD do? I already do that.

Compressing files to zip, rar etc. do not change the data itself. But it's not a good idea (only a waste of time) since mp3, wma and so, are already compressed so you wouldn't save disk space.
Ha! if you house burn, you should think first to take with you the most valuable things: your hard disk containing your music!

MP3tunes is $40 a year for unlimited storage. They do have limits on file size and formats. But, it's pretty cheap. I use them and it works pretty good.drjboulder wrote:Have a look at this: Mp3tunes.
