3.1 Upgrade of old library: random freezes/crashes [#5554]

Hi...

I just switched computers...replaced the MM DB, MM.ini and located all the missing tracks (~40.000 tracks). I'm using the latest beta (3.1.0.1235) and am experiencing a lot of freezing and crashing, to the point the program is not really usable. There is no single event that triggers the crash,...just happens randomly. Where is the log and can can someone help ,e check it out to see what is going on?

Have had a similar experience, except not on a new computer. After installing a series of 3.1 builds, it has gotten to the point where MM freezes and crashes frequently for no apparent reason. This is after having used it on this computer for several years. I am tired of fighting with it, so have installed the latest version of Winamp which works just fine.

The computer is indeed new, but the DB isn't...its a 2.X MM DB that has migrated from version to version and so its a few years old.
I wouldn't want to give up MM...I think the program excels at what it does, and also I wouldn't like to loose the DB, as it has years of info, playcounts, etc. taht's why I'm waiting for some advice from the devs before clearing the library.

Is it possible that you upgraded to an early MM 3.1 alpha? Some of the early 3.1 builds did have a problem with the upgrade process and would have created corrupted databases. Most alpha builds also created a backup of the 3.0 db, so that you can do a fresh upgrade using the latest 3.1 build.

i.e. in the directory containing your MediaMonkey DB:
-Delete MM.DB
-Rename the 3.0 backup (it'll be named something like MM.DB (1).Pre31) to MM.DB

Run the latest MM 3.1 build and let it perform an upgrade.

I can confirm this issue has been fixed...I don't really know what was fixed but it works now. It appears (please correct me if wrong) that the conversion to 3.1 DB was buggy at times, so I had to use my old Pre-3.1 DB and convert it again using the latest beta (3.1.0.1242).

I must thank rusty and the others in the support team a lot, as they have been really helpful at debugging this.
