BUG with find

Post by Bug Finder »

Hi, first: why's there no forum topic "Bug reports?"

Anyway, I found one.

I have in my database this file:
filename: "D:\mp3\karaoke unpacked\Oasis - Wonderwall (sc8240-06).mp3"

From the id3 tag:
Track Title "Wonderwall"
Track Artist "Oasis"

I can see this file in "D:\mp3\karaoke unpacked\"+"All"
Here I can click on it an play it. It's also in the Artist
list.

But the find-function fails to list the file. No matter if I
search for "Oasis" or "Wonderwall". I tried reassigning the
tags within MM but it is still not found.

Strange!
Bug Finder

Now it finds it

Even stranger. Suddenly it starts finding it again.
Had the same problem with some other titles.

So if something is wrong this will be hard to find.
The only thing I can think of is that there are
Spaces somewhere in the search fields that confuse
the search...

Here's a question

When you were able to play the song, but not search it did you go through 'Location' or 'My Computer' to see the file?

You see the 'My Computer' node doesn't represent the MM DB, it just shows you all the songs on your system. The 'Location' node shows all the songs in the MM DB. This easily shows you which folders you have added to the MM DB.

To the program makers I would like to ask the following: When you go through the 'My Computer' node and find a file in a location not in the MM DB does MM add it automatically at some point (after viewing it or after playing it)? In this case I don't want MM to add any new folders to the DB unless I select it through 'Add Tracks ..'. Files in these locations often comprise of temporary files or a temporary location for me.
The same could go for ripping a CD maybe there should be an option to disable adding files to DB after being ripped.

finding files & browsing/playing files not in the Librar

Post by rusty »

Bugfinder: If you're ever able to replicate this problem, could you send me a log as described at:
http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69

That'll give us the info needed to solve the problem.

Lowlander: MM generally doesn't add files to the library on it's own whether you're browsing the files, or playing them from the My Computer node. The only time that files are added to the library is when the user:
a) coverts files
b) copies or moves (drag & drop) files from My Computer to Library nodes
c) copies/moves files using the Send-to menu (the Send-to option assumes that the operation is always to a Library node).

The correct behaviour for case c) is debatable since sometimes users will want the tracks to be added the the library and other times not. We sided towards the more conservative option.
