My only output is over HDMI of my ATI graphics card.
If I disable the HDMI output (two outputs = less power saving possible) and click play in MM it, the play button changes to a pause button but the progress bar doesn't advance.
Furthermore clicking the stop button doesn't do anything and you can't exit MM without killing the process in the task manager.
It shouldn't be possible to play audio-only media when no audio output is available, video should be possible but without the audio track.

Re: 1393: allows to play music without soundcard
reraising the bug as it still exists in 1393.
Re: 1380: allows to play music without soundcard
Which output plug-in do you use? If you choose a different one, do you experience any different behavior?
Thanks,

Re: 1380: allows to play music without soundcard
It happens with the WASAPI output plugin in both exclusive and non-exclusive mode.
Also the stop button stays visually disabled (light grey) but gets visually enabled on hover.
If you then close MM it hangs displaying the playing icon in the taskbar.
The only way to close it is by killing the process in the task manager.
When using the DirectSound output plugin MM skips each track in the playlist like it does when it doesn't find a file.
So it's a WASAPI output plugin thing.
Ah, and that still happens with 1395.
