Reading Files.....
I've been having issues with the Version 4 series of mediamonkey. It takes nearly half an hour or more for it to eventually let me access the songs added into the library. I've been hoping it'd have been fixed in the newer release but the one released on Jun16 seems to have the same issue. And if i try to manually play them as if they weren't added to the library it'll only play like a second or two of any given track till its done "Reading Files...." Again same issue in previous versions of Media Monkey 4.
System specs, Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) sp1, Dell XPS 420, 3 gigs ram, Intel 2 Quad Q6600, XFX 8600GT vid card, 300 Gig WD HDD (56gigs free)
Mediamonkey plugins are: Batchartfinder 4.1, Genre Finder 4.8, Last.fm Scobbler (current version), Monkeyrok 5.5 (also tried removing addons but it didn't help)
Music folder is only 23.6 Gigs, 6606 files, 455 folders

Re: Reading Files.....
While I am not having the exact same problems as yours this build is much slower to load the library, it took 5 minutes to load 18147 tracks. That may not seem like a lot of time to some but mm3 was much quicker than this, not to mention the previous builds. And this is only my music files, I am almost afraid to try it with the videos also. But, this did not stop my tracks from playing. Tell me are you having problems with tracks that are in your library or tracks in the my computer node??
Nyn
EDIT: Accessing the other nodes and even the entire library node was almost instantaneous, so I am unsure why the music node is so slow.
EDIT@: Last time.... It seems this slow reading happens the first time for each session of MM, after that it is really quick loading tracks, why is it taking so long the first time, what is it doing??

Re: Reading Files.....
As i said I tried to play tracks as if they weren't added into the library (via my computer node) and I get a Now Playing:Reading Files.... showing at the bottom of the client. And still it takes nearly half an hour or more before anything wants to play. Even tried installing as a Portable thinking there might be something botched in the registry somewhere, and same problem. Also running with UAC turned off running/installing as an admin shouldn't be an issue either.

Re: Reading Files.....
Note that if you access your files via my computer node then MM reads all metadata from file tags (this is slow). Try to add the files to library first and then access them via 'Music' -> 'Location' node or another library nodes.

For files that are in the library, it seems the process is much slower in the latest build than it was in previous builds.

Re: Reading Files.....
What are the exact steps? How big is your DB?
In my case fucusing and populating root 'Music' collection node with 18k tracks is in a second with build 1393.

Re: Reading Files.....
My db is only 19453 with 18146 of them being music files, all are in the db, the first time I select a node, either entire library or music it always takes several minutes to populate, after that it is instantaneous so I am not sure why it takes so long the first time. I've tried this on both my machines, one has no additional scripts installed the second has several.

Re: Reading Files.....
Ludek, as i've already stated they are already added into the database but nothing will show up for nearly half an hour via that route despite only having 4316 songs used to have more but that drive died) according to mediamonkey (once it finally finished reading. And this happens EVERY time i start/restart mediamonkey. The mention of the my computer node was a question i answered because he thought that maybe it'd load faster for me, which unfortunately for me, has the same result, having to wait half an hour or longer for "READING FILES...." hence the reason i started this thread hoping for an answer of how to speed it up via a plugin, script, regedit, or something or atleast bring it to the developers attention so it can be addressed in future builds.
And once again as i've already stated, i've already tried uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting the database folder, both with/without plugins, deleting all MediaMonkey related registry files, and then reinstalling, etc. I've also already tried doing the Maintaining - Optimizing database thing thinking it'd speed things up but sadly did not help.

Re: Reading Files.....
Debug log would be useful and should show what is the reason for the slowdowns.

Re: Reading Files.....
The log seems to be incompleted, I guess this is because you firstly start MM and then DebugView which sometimes results in missing debug messages.Werewolfhero wrote:http://www.mediafire.com/?ifiiziiye19w72i
Thats the log thing that the Dbgview.exe thing gave me.
1. Start DbgView at first
2. Start MM
3. Describe what you are doing
You wrote "It takes nearly half an hour or more for it to eventually let me access the songs added into the library", what you mean by the access? How exactly you access the songs?
Re: Reading Files.....
Just wanted to thank you guys for the help on this. We still can't replicate, but hopefully a complete debug log with an indication of where in the log (line #) the problem occurs will help us solve it.
Thanks!

Re: Reading Files.....
Nyn,
I just tested 1394 vs MM 3.2.5 and it scanned 8k files significantly faster (7.5 minutes vs 9minutes).
Let me know if you're still experiencing scanning slowness with the latest build.

Should be the full log this time. Included screencaps and the requested walkthrough of what exactly was done when starting and while waiting for the library database to finally finish loading up. Keep in mind this happens EVERY time i start Mediamonkey. And this is fresh install (from June 20th with the latest build) Used the portable install version with no additional addons/skins/etc (only what comes with default install) for this but the standard install w/addons/skins/etc does exactly the same. :/

It is not as bad as it was with previous builds, it only takes less than a minute now with files that are in the library, which is much more manageable. For files from my computer it takes about 2-3 minutes for @3900 tracks.
