The auto-convert feature is just great.
But it seems to convert more than required: most of my CDs are in the virtual CD, so they have already been converted to MP3. But when I sync with my iPod, MM is converting them again (from the Virtual CD's MP3s). Not only is this taking unnecessary time but conversions over and over are losing details from the original recording.
(In MM 2.4 the MP3s from the virtual CD used to be copied as-is to the iPod.)

Needless auto-conversion for VCD tracks
Thanks for the report.

amarcord - I think you're doing what I'm trying to do. I have my music in a lossless format and would like to auto-convert to mp3 and sync with virtual cd. Then, I'd lile to sync my ipod (and other devices) with the virtual cd. I've figured out how to convert and sync with virtual cd but I can't figure out how to configure a portable device to sync with the virtual cd (as opposed to the lossless files0). Could you help?
Also, a couple of other questions:
(1) Do you sync your lossless files (if that's what you have) with virtual cd often? If you do, if you change the tags on the files, does the whole file get re-written or just the tags?
(2) Same question for syncing your ipod with the virtual CD, if you just update the tags, does the whole file get re-written?
Thanks for the help

Gab,
I'm not sure to understand, so I'm not sure you will be satisfied with my answer
I use the virtual CD to have easy access to my audio CDs. What I do is insert the audio CD once, add it to the library, and send all tracks to the virtual CD (music is converted to MP3 during this operation).
To synchronize with my iPod, I have checked the audio CDs in the synchronization list, and now (as of beta 3) MM is copying the MP3 from the virtual CD to the iPod, if the audio CD has already been put to the virtual CD.
To answer your specific questions:
(1) If you consider audio CDs as containing lossless files, yes I synchronize them, but not often, just once (since a CD content never changes!). But I guess we're not thinking of the same thing.
(2) Yes, if I update the tags, the whole file gets re-written to the iPod. Actually that's the only way to force the file to be updated if you change a track property, like, say, its album art.
Hope it helps
