MM does not see iPhone

Post by RonJeffries »

I have set up iTunes for my iPhone 3Gs as instructed, turning off auto sync, setting it up for manual sync and so on.

It shows up in explorer, not as a drive but does show up as a device I can click on and drag photos out of.

It seems there is no setting for "act as a drive" on the iPhone 3Gs.

When I start MM, the iPhone does not show up in the folder list, and when I select a playlist and press the send to portable device button it tells me there is no device selected.

What must I do to get MM to see my iPhone 3G? Thanks!!

What version of MM are you using? Is the latest version of Quicktime and iTunes installed (not Quicktime alternative or Quicktime lite)?

MM is the 3.20 release. Just installed QT and iTunes 9 today.

Thanks,

Does it show in iTunes then?

if it shows up in explorer then itunes/quicktime is probably not installed correctly, it should not show up in explorer at all

Does it show up as a device, or as a drive (E: or such)? It is supposed to show up as a drive according to the "documentation".

A device (actually as a camera). It isn't supposed to show up as a drive, not the iPhone or Touch. Just ipods do that.

Again, I've gone thru the steps. The docs clearly show the iPhone showing up in MM up above the library. mine does not show up. It does show up now in explorer, as a camera as said above.

I'd really like this to work, it would be 10x easier than iTunes for transcoding. iTunes and QuickTime say they are OK. Maybe I'll install MM again just for grins.

Its really hard to say. It should work, and it seems to work for most people, so something must be different on your system. Try to reinstall MM, iTunes, and quicktime. who knows?

I have the same phone and same problem, except I am using the USB lead and not wireless to connect the phone. Using XP phone shows up as a camera, from which I can drag the photos on the phone. Phone shows up on iTunes. I have reinstalled iTunes 10.5.0 (because it was hanging when backing up), having removed (and therefore reinstalled) QT, bonjour and the 2 Apple services that come with iTunes. The phone shows up fine in iTunes but not MM. It is a shame because I hate iTunes. Any ideas?

Seems clear MM is not interested in this issue. Too bad, really, given that there are kind of a lot of iPhones out there ...

Don't be so melodramatic  . We're working on it right now, as is mentioned at the above link.

Ha ha, only serious. FYI my iPhone 3Gs in NOT jailbroken and is now running iOS5. I've not tried it with MM/iOS5 since as far as I can tell there's been no useful progress or even indications of interest, since February, until today. I hope you'll get it. I like MM except for not being able to use it on my phone, which is an important component in my listening toolkit.
