Duplicate tracks when syncing

Post by Hoy »

First off, been a long time MM user and I love it, great program. I've gotten more than my money's worth from the gold license.

That said, I've run into an annoying issue and I'd like to know if there is any way to avoid it. I've noticed that when I sync a playlist (right click playlist, send to...x (synchronize) from MM to my Android phone I sometimes get duplicate tracks on the phone's memory. One thing to note is all my music on the computer is in .flac format, and it is auto converted during sync. I did some investigating and noticed MM will add a duplicate track if MM is set to convert to a different format than what is on the device. For example, 320kbps MP3 on the device then sync the same song but its converted to 192kbps OGG results in duplicate tracks, one for each format. Also, if the format on the device is the same as the auto converted sync format but the kbps is different, MM will sync over the existing file. An example of this is a 256kbps OGG on the device then syncing the same track but with a 192kbps OGG convert, MM will replace the 256 with the 192. Lastly, if the on device kbps matches the auto convert kbps MM will show the converting>copying dialog but the on device file seems to be untouched. I hope this makes sense.

My question is can this behavior be avoided? Is it possible to make MM not add a duplicate or overwrite the on-device file, but still end up with the song in the playlist on the device? Something like a filename check? I'd like to avoid having duplicate files or overwriting higher bitrate files with lower ones during sync if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for the help

You need to use Auto-Sync to prevent duplicates on the device.

Thanks for the reply but I'm still getting duplicates using Auto Sync (sync when plugged in). The playlist syncs fine but still results in file1.mp3 and file1.ogg (ogg being the current auto convert setting). Any ideas?

hi there ,
afaik the only possible way to avoid is not change filetype later on =/

u define which filetypes are device-supported or converted.
when picking ogg ALL unsupported formats are converted to ogg, vica versa for other formats.
if the majority of files on the device are mp3s i'd delete the oggs and synch again or the other way round to fix. or synch from scratch

just verified on my ndroid device that changing the conversion bitrate wont force a resynch for incompatible files. (after mm_1476_portable restart and replug device).

cheers
