Smart Playlists Exported Differently Than Static?

Post by consultant »

I'm having an issue where I use the Export All Playlists and import them into iTunes but the static playlists are all empty. Only the Smart Playlists have songs. The reason is the format is different for some reason. The Smart Playlists export to m3u files with this format:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:187,Anjulie - Addicted2Me
\\JC-SAMSUNG\My Music\MP3\Anjulie\Anjulie (Bonus Track Version)\Addicted2Me.m4a

The static playlists export like this:

\\JC-SAMSUNG\My Music\MP3\Alkaline Trio\Crimson\Alkaline Trio - Burn.m4a
\\JC-SAMSUNG\My Music\MP3\Unknown\Unknown\K.D. Lang sings Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.mp3

There's no extended info in the m3u files for the static playlists. iTunes doesn't like that.

Didn't solve it. Seems that many songs are missing from all playlists after imported into iTunes. Guess I'll revert back to what I used to have to use when MM wasn't compatible with new iOS. This should do the trick. Cleaner solution than exporting/importing anyway.

Eh.. forgot that plugin duplicates all my songs! Not good when you have 20GB worth of songs. Back to the drawing board. I remember doing this a long time ago, I think I had to use a different format other than m3u to get exported playlists to go into iTunes with no problems?

Export Playlists to Spotify or iTunes

Post by consultant »

I give up! (for now) I don't use iTunes. How can I get my MM playlists into Spotify? What I've tried so far...

Ivy Is Here http://www.ivyishere.org/ivy Just for giggles I tried an m3u file. Nope. Need an itunes or cs file.

I exported playlists in MM to m3u and imported into iTunes. The lists were missing many songs after import. I deleted all the songs in the iTunes library and re-imported my MP3 folder. Then I tried to import the m3us from MM again, ALL the lists are now empty. Though it was because I was using UNC paths in my play lists like this:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:187, Anjulie - Addicted2Me
\\JC-SAMSUNG\My Music\MP3\Anjulie\Anjulie (Bonus Track Version)\Addicted2Me.m4a

So I changed it to the drive letter:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:187, Anjulie - Addicted2Me
D:\My Music\MP3\Anjulie\Anjulie (Bonus Track Version)\Addicted2Me.m4a

Made no difference.

I decided to use the iTunes plugin - but just remembered that plugin (as far as I know) has to create duplicate copies of all my songs. No thanks.

What the hell do I need to do to get my playlists into Spotify?

Still empty after importing to iTunes. I unchecked relative paths to make sure that wasn't the issue.

I can't reproduce on MediaMonkey 4.1 beta. When using Tools > Scripts > Export All Playlists both static and Auto-Playlists are exported as extended M3U Playlists.

It sounds like an itunes problem then. These are standard playlists.

Ya obviously an iTunes problem, but figuring out what iTunes doesn't like about the format is the question.

Most messages here are concerning importing iTunes playlists to MM not the other way around. If I could find an m3u to csv converter then I could bypass iTunes. Isn't anywhere here using Spotify and desiring to import their MM playlists into it. Spotify is pretty popular.
