I tried to play a file and MediaMonkey stated I needed a plugin/codec and the program sent me to the following page:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brows ... c3-filter/
I downloaded it from the link and installed it and BAM - about 20 or 30 firefox windows opened up. I then ran Malwarebytes and the addon AC3 Filter 1.46 is full of spyware/malware. I just ran Malwarebytes right before installing it so I know my machine was clean.
A total of 16 malware programs were installed:
PUP.optional.Conduit.A
PUP.optional.OpenCandy
PUP.optional.OtShot.A
etc.
This may be something that needs addressed before anyone else's computer gets bugged up.
AC3 Filter 1.46 addon installed 16 possible malware files
Re: AC3 Filter 1.46 addon installed 16 possible malware fil
Hi Skydealer,
Thanks for the heads-up. We tested this and didn't see a problem. Furthermore, I see that the AC Filter 2.6 is linked by various other reputable sites that have tested it for malware.
Could it be that the malware was installed by another app?

note: our website links to the AC3 Filter's website, so it's possible that there was a problem with the file that was corrected by the site owner.

Hi,
Just to clear things little bit more. I would also like to thank you for informing us. Simple as it sounds I installed AC3 filter without any possible issues.
Than as you pointed to Some PUP(PUS) reports I scanned system with number of scanners assuming that I'm infected using these steps http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-bro ... ect-virus/ that covers most of known issues.
Please note that these apps uses tight scan and there is high risk of False positives.
FYI OpenCandy is registered Information colector but not an virus.

Conduit, etc are mediocre search engines and adware.
