Can't play videos? (but I hear them)
At first I couldn't figure out how to get the videos to show; solved that problem; next was to try playing the video, my Denon E400 AVR saw the video folder (as well as the music folders) but it wouldn't play the video; why???? I suspect this isn't exactly an issue on the MMW side.
I have the latest MMW stable version; my firmware for the Denon E400 is current as well.
Media monkey is the only DLNA/UPnP server that works well for me; but unfortunatelyy requires an always on PC (I have tried PLEX, I have tried the Synology Media Server, and my Denon AVR just won't look at those).

Re: Can't play videos? (but I hear them)
It sounds like the Denon AVR has a poorly implemented DLNA client if the other servers don't even work.
Make sure that in MediaMonkey you set the appropriate Supported Formats and Auto-Conversion rules in the Media Server settings (Tools > Options > Media Sharing) so that content send to the Denon is supported by it (refer to Denon documentation to see what it supports).
Which version of MediaMonkey are you using? I'd suggest trying the latest beta of MediaMonkey 4.1 from the Beta Testing forum as it has some DLNA related fixes.

Hey thanks for the reply lowlander
I'm a little surprised the Denon can't play .mp4?????? I can hear the video; it somehow plays as AAC but before I get to that it'll say Videos (not play) on the denon AVR
If Denon has a poorly implemented media player/DLNA system would you recommend Onkyo? I'm specifically looking at the Onkyo TX-NR727 it supposedly has better/more apps than the Denon E400
I also went and checked Synology NAS FAQ about using Denon; they said that the 388 was tested and known to work; but it makes no mention of the E400 so I have to assume that the Denon E400 should work under certain conditions if I can get it to work I wouldn't need media monkey to play/run the DLNA side of things; I'd use it for organizing and playing lyrics with minilyrics when I'm not using the AVR
I'll check back later

Re: Can't play videos? (but I hear them)
I don't know if Denon has a poorly implemented DLNA client, but by your problems with other Media Servers it would seem the client that is at fault (could be user setup too).
MP4 can contain several formats, and maybe only 1 is implemented. For example MediaMonkey offers X264 and Xvid for MP4. You could try different formats to see if any are played with video on the Denon.
You could also try the latest beta and if it still fails capture this failure in a debug log (step 4b), with any luck it shows why (send it to support): http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... f=20&t=341

I looked at the auto conversion rules; its configured to automatically convert to wmv from any unsupported formats; so its probably my setup
And also I have tried two DLNA devices; my samsung smart TV and the Denon E400 they both share the same common issue; when I try to play the video I just get AAC audio only. (but they play music great!)

In that case it may be your setup. You could create a new Media Server in MediaMonkey next to your existing one and leave all settings at default. Then see if it works or you can disable any video conversion rules to make sure files are send as they are.

Good point, I disabled the default media server; created a new one and it won't show up anywhere on the network; checked port numbers at first I had both running they were on different port numbers obviously.
I also got the PLEX and Synology Media servers to show up finally; there was a setting on the NAS causing a problem (jumbo frames) but I still cannot play videos they are .mp4 and when I was able to run the MMW server I could see the video thumbnails as a slideshow and no audio :S

Sounds like the Denon doesn't support your MP4 files. A debug log may (but may not) show more.

Just checked the manual;Lowlander wrote:Sounds like the Denon doesn't support your MP4 files. A debug log may (but may not) show more.
it will play .mp4 (AAC) it won't play .wmv but it will play .wma
it'll also play a lot of other audio formats such as FLAC, mp3 and some of the apple proprietary formats but it won't play protected media (copyrighted media) we'll get into that later.
UPDATE: Denon won't play videos from MM; my TV will so having that conversion disabled helps I think

As you're probably referring to this file type: it's not a video format but an audio codec.mynetdude wrote: very positive; here's quote from manualMPEG-4 AAC Pz2
The whole section of the manual you posted deals with audio only; in fact it looks as though the Denon doesn't do video over DLNA.
Re: Can't play videos? (but I hear them)
ahhh well that makes SOME sense; ok... gotcha I see well I kinda find it silly that it won't play videos considering its an AVR; its designed to do both audio AND video isn't it not?khelsing wrote:As you're probably referring to this file type: it's not a video format but an audio codec.mynetdude wrote: very positive; here's quote from manualMPEG-4 AAC Pz2

so... what do I use to play the video?! Boxee? (I have it; just no HDMI cable or remote; I can't find my remote)
while we're on the topic of DLNAs if what all this comes down to that the Denon can't play videos (I'd highly doubt the Onkyo AVRs will either) I'm considering keeping the PLEX server up; and having MMW scan files from the server rather than the network location (not mapped drive) that way I don't have to worry if the PC is online or not and I can stream from it (or download the music; etc and I believe the Media Monkey for Android will do the same thing)
Well thanks for the simple yet futile effort to get it to work
