Can't access MMW Server [split from: MMA draining battery]

Post by toby1kenobi »

Slightly off topic, but can anyone remind me how to set up sync server? I uninstalled MMA and have now reinstalled the new version (and MMW is unchanged), but when I search for the server with MMA nothing comes up.

Anyone able to help with re-setting up wireless sync?

Re. re-setting things up: I've been able to replicate the battery drain problem triggered by USB sync as well--that's tracked at:
http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11688

We're working on it, but I workaround that worked for me was to do a clean install by deleting MMA app data, deleting the /MediaMonkey folders, then run MMA once before you do a USB sync. Then in MMW, delete the sync profile that you're using and connect your device so that you can start afresh.

Thanks for getting back to me, sorry for the delay in responding. I've done what you suggested, but my problem is (I think) More fundamental than that - when I try to find the server in MMA it can't 'see' MMW. MMW hasn't changed (AFAIK) since I had this working.

Toby,

Are you able to browse the server over UPnP?

btw, I'm going to move this item to a separate thread once you reply, since it's a different issue.

Do you mean in general? If so, yes, I can see/browse it in Windows Explorer on my laptop. Let me know if that's not what you meant!

Rusty likely meant that you can see the MMW server when browsing UPnP in MMA. This is a good test to verify if MMA can at least see MMW.

Check the MMW Media Server logs to see if a connection is coming in from the UPnP client:
Tools > Options > Media Sharing > MediaMonkey Library (Options...) > Server Tab (you can also check on the UPnP/DLNA tab whether access has been granted to your client--if you didn't notice the Pop-up window in MMW when you attempted to connect, then you may not have access).

It's not listed in the logs, and I don't get a popup (in MMW). MMW has 'Share automatically with all new devices' checked...is there anything else I can do?

Can you see the MMW server from any other device on your network? If you can make sure your MMA device is on the same network (not a guest or neighbors wifi) as the MMW server.

I can see/browse it in Windows Explorer on my laptop (although this is the same laptop that's running MMW) and I can see that laptop (or its IP address at least) using Fing on my phone. In Fing I can also see that port 5000 on the MMW machine is open, and this is what MMW is using.

You need to check what port is used in Settings for MMW Server. Try to change port, it is common that some router filter UPnP ports and multicast trafic.

I've tried 5001, still nothing. Again, if I look in Fing on the phone I can see the computer and the open port (5001) but MMA doesn't see it at all.
