MM 2024 MMHelper.dll error

Post by GoldenNorm »

This error appears when I go to start MM 2024: "The code execution cannot proceed because MMHelper.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." The file is physically present in the folder with all the others.

Questions:

If I simply reinstall the program, do I lose the customizations (skin) to appearance, servers and database that I have applied?
Is there a known "cure" for errors of this type that I could apply?

No, just reinstall on top of the existing install.

oops, spoke too soon. Problem reappeared on start after sucessful use. Repeated the re-install, program worked until the error message reappeared. I've got a backup program running that won't finish until near midnight, so I won't do a another re-install for a while. Meanwhile, if there are suggestions for tracing the source of this problem, I'd appreciate them.

Perhaps a security or the backup software is messing with the MediaMonkey installation?

What windows version?

What file path your using for your install? any special characters in that path?

To analize if mediamonkey is finding the right file.
Download Procmon: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin ... ds/procmon
Close mediamonkey.
Start Procmon.
Start Capture events in procmon. (See image, capture events button)
Start Mediamonkey. Wait until you see the MMhelper.dll error in mediamokey.
Stop Capture events in procmon. Same button where you started to capure events.
Filter events, (See image, filter events)
Setup the correct filters, to filter out all of the non important info. (See my printscreen for exact details.)
Make sure after each filter you setup, you press add, to add them to the list.
Then Apply, and scroll down until you see MMHelper.dll
If you see SUCCES like my printscreen, then the file was found.
If you see some other result, post printscreen back with the path name and the error.

Thank you for this effort. On first try procmon froze. Similar result on second try.

Then I noticed I was getting different result with another shortcut (task bar vs. start menu) to the .exe file and then suddenly with MM4.x. Trashed all short cuts, and created new ones. No trouble now with either version of MM. MM4 on task bar, MM5 on start menu, all tries with Macrium backup running in background. If trouble reappears I'll have procmon at the ready.

Windows 11 Professional, Version 24H2.
Install path C:\Program Files (x86)\Ventis\MediaMonkey

Procmon is a bit resource heavy when a lot of application or background task are running, as it logs every action off all application in the log. So if the freezing continues, exit all other programs like browser/chatprograms etc and background task like backup and such, this helps to decrease the amount of logging inside procmon.
