Artwork automatically searched by "Artist"+"Title" possible?

Post by Bakoes »

#1: I would like Artwork to be automatically searched by "Artist"+"Title".
Lots of times the Album is a collection album, which I don't care about.
Or it's an unknown album.

► Is it possible to set lookup image always/automatically to "Artist"+"Title"?
I only look to tag individual tracks anyway.

#2: And in Options - Metadata Lookup - Background metadata lookup,
Artist Image & ArtWork automatic lookup...
I don't really get it what's supposed to happen.
And where the images are stored.
I looked at help, but didn't get any wiser.
It seems confusing, maybe because not everything seems to work.
► Background Artist image search doesn't seem to work.

1. No, but you can manually enter any search query you wish.

2. See: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... k_Settings

3. How does it seem to fail?

Hello to all The Monkeys

#1 Lookup Image: Automatic search for artist + title, in my settings. I think it goes like this...
If the Album & Album Artist are known, the search query will be "Album Artist"+"Album".
If the Album is known & the Album Artist is not known, it will be "Artist"+"Album".
If the Album is also not known, the search query will be "Artist"+"Title".

It's the exact opposite of what I would like...
I would like to be able to select which search settings to use.

#2 After reading the link page again I'm still not clear on what the difference is between "Artist image"
and other Artwork.

#3 I selected Options > Metadata lookup > Artist images. But MMW isn't looking for an Artist image.
Is there something I have to do before it actually does this?
I played the songs in several views but nothing happened.
Did I miss something?

I think it did once before I created this topic, and I believe the image was placed among the Artwork images.
Would that be correct?

#4 I will now deselect Artist images click ok
& then select Options > Metadata lookup > Artwork.
It doesn't always work (it looks like it doesn't work if the Album is unknown)

and I think something similar to #1 starts to happen.
I get this search query to a French song, "Various Artists"+"Top 40 - 1975". (Song = Joe Dassin - L'ete indien)
And all the images are in English, it's clearly not relevant information.
And since I also don't know the original French Album info it's kinda useless.

It would be great if I could select which info I want to use for searching.
Using "Joe Dassin"+"L'ete indien" immediately gets me a results I was looking for.
I added an image.

5 minutes later...
When I try to also add the Auto Artwork result (just for testing purposes), I can't deselect Apply to all...
And when I look at Properties > Artwork, I can't see the Auto Artwork result. So I can't edit or remove it at all.
Looks like now I'm "stuck" with that Auto result...

Ahhh, after changing the type of view I noticed that it was already removed,
(but I could still seemingly add that image).
Maybe this was part of what was confusing me, which I mentioned in my first post...

#5 I noticed I could actually lookup an image for a playlist as well!?
But I can't remove it anymore!?

Summary:
► 1&4: I would like to be able to select what I want to search for.
► 3: Automatic Artist image, what is it exactly, and how does it work, and where will it get placed.

Best Regards...

1-4. This will probably remain beyond the scope of this feature. Meaning manual lookup will be needed.

2. Artwork looks up Album Artwork, Artist images looks up artist images.

5. In Lookup window select Default Icon to remove Artwork.

Thank you...

#2 I think I figured it out now;
An Artist image is saved within only one song of the artist.
But it shows itself with other/all songs of the same artist as well (within a Grid view).

This sounds similar to the Album image,
which should show itself with every song of that album.

And a Song could show the Artist image in a Grid View,
but another image in the preview & properties/artwork panel.

Correct?

No, Artist images are stored in the MediaMonkey User folder, they're not associated with the media files themselves.

Album Artwork is either saved in the media file itself or with the media files.

fyi, the next build will include a fix to the bug that Artist images often contain Album images. Tracked at:

Thanks!
