Syncronization w/ Large FLAC Library

Post by windmiller »

I have a fairly large Flac library (500GB+) and I want to "sync" some albums with a iRiver H320 and convert synced albums to Ogg upon syncing. I have configured this via the Auto Conversion Tab. My questions is, I never want albums that have been converted to OGG synced back to the PC. I also dont want adjustments made to the FLAC files on the PC. Is there a way to assure that this doesnt happen or is this there no reason to worry about this based on how MM works?

The reason I worry my g-friend will be doing the syncing and she is not as tech aware of some.

The auto-conversion feature is an incredible idea!

The Sync process doesn't modify the originals in any way. Of course any user can modify files by modifying the tags within MediaMonkey itself. If you worry you could setup an Windows account that has no write permissions to the music directory or a seperate Windows account that has the MediaMonkey options set to not update tracks on tag change (this last option will still allow users to modify tracks thru the synchronize tags funtion).

As for the OGG being synced back, I don't think MediaMonkey does that. It's a one-way sync to the device not from.

Thanks for the quick reply! The PC that the syncing will be done from is seperate from mine so I can custimze its settings like you suggsted. The Windows profile idea is great!
