MAD plugin, the best? mpg123 is a bug!

Post by zuus »

After extensive listening through both the hi-fi (naim amp & monitor audio speakers) and sennheiser headphones. The MAD plugin absolutely thrashes the mp123 plugin.

Just thought you should know.

Regards,

Zuus

Only an opinion but by god there is no compare.

Sorry if wrong forum.

To be honest I don't have that good ears to tell any difference, actually I have never tried to do so. However, there are several tests published on web and in_mpg123 doesn't seem to have any quality problems. One of the tests can be found at http://mp3decoders.mp3-tech.org/objective.html and in_mpg123 results are perfect.

In any case, if you prefer MAD, just put it in plugins folder and enjoy!

If you're looking for a newer version of a mpg123 winamp plugin, this japanese site has binaries from may 18 2004 (the future!)

Sounds pretty good to me, and there is even a build targeted at sse2.

The guys at the hydrogenaudio.org forums seem to follow this plugin with interest.

Thanks for the replies, yes I am aware of hydrogenaudio.org, the reason I posted the message was for the benefit of others. It is subjective, obviously, after having spent years and thousands on the hobby of hi-fi and no I don't have golden ears I just enjoy music, I felt inclined to comment.

I really do believe that the MAD plugin has a more enjoyable/involving sound. (No I don't have shares in the venture).

Question:

What is the reason to use mpg123?

Stability I pressume.
