Google Talk

Post by ComputerWolf »

I don't know exactly where this would go, but I have something which may be considered a bug.

If anyone has the most recent google talk, it allows for a users status to be updated with the current song they are playing. It stated this worked with winamp, so i figured it would work with MM. However, on first attempt it did not recognize MM as playing a song. I then renamed MediaMonkey.exe to winamp.exe, and it showed a song as being played. Here's the bad part:
The song would display as "Artist - Artist", not "Track - Artist" as it should. This is no good. If I use winamp as the player, it works fine. What i'm wondering, is what would cause this to happen, and is there something I can tweak to make it work?

I didn't have to rename to winamp but I am using the winamp mp3 decoder and I get the same problem, Artist-Artist.

I wish someone here could tell me how to fix this... winamp works just fine, and since I updated my mediamonkey, i don't even need to change the name to winamp.exe, but i still get "Artist - Artist" (actual name substituted of course)

Ok it seams that Google talk Do not Communicate with MM as most other Applications do.
And it looks that Result returned from MM is not converted in right format, so if it is not big problem I want to confirm one thing as I was able to replicate the problem.

If you play for example Queen - Show Must Go On Google Talk shows Queen - Queen
But in Case of Abba - Teans - Supper Trouper Google Talk shows Abba - Teans

So It looks that when Artist have " - " in name Gougle talk catch only Artist from MM?

Can You examine same thing in Winamp. As it looks that Google Talk Either Do not Show Winamp Info Correctly when " - " is in Artist Name.

I have checked, and when winamp plays a song as in your example, it shows as Show Must Go On - Queen which is fine. I then added a dash to the artist like so Qu - een it shows it fine as Show Must Go On - Qu - een

Same Winamp example google talk shows een - Show Must Go On - Qu
Also could you try with Show Must Go On - Qu - [een]?

Note: I do not have Media Library Support Installed as this maybe have some effect.

You are right, I tried it again with winamp before adding the brackets and it did show een - Show Must Go On - Qu and with MM it shows een - Qu. When I add the brackets, with winamp it shows [een] - Show Must Go On - Qu and with MM it shows [een] - Qu. This is really interesting

Yes it is :) We are looking into it is there way to solve that within MM as it looks that the problem is not just in MM.

Also if it is no problem post some notes to Google Music Tracks support with explain what happend, and if anything needed I'll be glad to help them.

google talk

Post by hcs26 »

I can't even get my google talk to work at all. Ever since I installed mediamonkey, google talk won't work if they are both open at the same time. I always get the same error message,

Cannot create file C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.m3u

do i have to install winamp as well to get google talk to work again? anyone have any ideas for this.

Try just To create That Path C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.m3u in Windows Explorer.

Google talk uses very simple detection of Curent Player in this case Winamp so it not recognize that MM is behind Winamp Calls and Support Compatibility and then searches for Winamp default path, ...

I have lots of trouble to figure this out and how to fix it.

Has somebody found the problem. I have just installed Winamp in order to get this result already, and I've got result, but with the same problem. :D

I'll ask advice on Google Talk Discussion Board, I'll let you know when I've got answer. :)
Hello,

In order to clear some stuff up, I'd like to refer to this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/Finding- ... bff4366a41

Here I said that Google Talk doesn't show the music track I'm playing
with MediaMonkey. That's normal because MediaMonkey is not a supported
player, but now I have read on the MediaMonkey Forum that if you have
Winamp installed, and play a song in MediaMonkey, that it does show
what you are playing...

But well, that is just where the problem is situated. On the forum a
lot of people have the same problem. Instead of <Artist> - <Song>,
Google Talk shows <Artist> - <Artist> whilst playing a song in
MediaMonkey (exemple: The Kooks - Ooh La becomes The Kooks - The
Kooks).

What could be the problem and how can it be solved?

Thank you in advance!
JTB
I hope I have made a good image of the problem. I don't think I'll get answer because it works with all the other players though. :(

Doesn't Google Talk work when the option "Show Current Music Track" is NOT selected?
