I know this problem has been addressed in a previous post but there seems to be no response and the title of the post is pretty obscure. Anyway, this is the error (42000:[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Unknown) I am getting when attempting to start MediaMonkey. It shows the splash screen then this error message. I have updated both the CDBC access driver and the Jet access driver as suggested in previous posts. I am running Windows XP, and Mediamonkey was working fine up until a week ago. I would appreciate any insight or solution to this problem since using inferior music managing software has been a huge pain. Thanks.

I don't know if this will help, but I did a Google search on your problem and came up with this link. It recommends a specific update, so if you haven't done it, give it a try.

I have tried specifically updating the MDAC driver to v2.8. The error message still pops up. I don't know very much about databases but it would seem from the error message that the database itself has been moved and MM doesn't know where it is. Is it possible to check on the status of the database itself to see if it is still where it should be and working properly? Also, this problem started after I installed emule which I'm guessing may also somehow interact with the database. I have unistalled it since, but it hasn't helped. Could emule have corrupted/moved the database somehow?

Spyda,

You don't mention what version of MM you're using. I'd suggest trying out version 2.2 (from the beta forum) if you're not using it already--there were a couple of changes which might solve this issue.

If the issue remains in 2.2, a debug log would be helpful to resolve it (see 'how to report a bug' in the beta forum)

I was running MM v2.1. I downloaded MM v2.2 Release Candidate 1. I installed and ran it and again it it gave the same error message at the splash screen, however after pressing "cancel" MM started up. I went to "add/rescan tracks to library" and got the error message: "Access Violation at address 005AD0D in module 'MediaMonkey.exe.' Read of the address 00000000." again followed bye the original erorr message (42000: ....). This would happen when trying to access any of the features of MM that require browsing files and folders on the hard drive. I closed it and followed the "How to report a bug" post describing how to create a debug log. I downloaded the debug version of MM and DebugView. I started DebugView and then attempted to start the debug MediaMonkey.exe (which was unzipped to the MM v2.2 directory). I got the following error message: "This application has failed to start because vorbisenc.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I then tried debugging using MM v2.1 and did get some logged information that is being e-mailed as a bug report. Hopefully all/some of this info will be helpful.

I don't know what all else you are running but I started getting the same exact error right after I installed Open Office 1.1.1. (www.openoffice.org). I reinstalled Microsoft Office 97, which I suppose over-wrote some of the ODBC stuff, and it all started working again.

I probably should have checked www.dll-files.com first but I didn't think of it until later. MediaMonkey (2.2.RC1), Open Office, and Microsoft Office all seem to be working fine now. (Windows XP Home Edition)

I have the same problem on my home computer -- I had win xp sp2 rc1 installed on it and thought that could be it, but I uninstalled that and the problem persisted.

mdac 2.8 & jet 4 sp8 reinstallation didn't affect the error message either.

I believe it has office 2000 sr1 installed. the next thing I was going to try was upgrading office.

any dll versions I could check that would be relevant?

I would definitely like to see a debug log of the problem in MM 2.2 RC-1(debug version needs to be downloaded as described on the RC-1 download page). So if anybody experiencing this problem could send it to me, it would be great.

It seems that the MDAC/Jet problems are discussed at length in a number of MS articles, and this type of bug is experienced by other applications as well. It appears to be caused by the fact that there are strict dependencies between the versions of MDAC and Jet, along with restrictions on the order in which they must be installed, and I'm guessing that this is the root of what's been observed here. Here's what I'd suggest if you're still experiencing the problems:

1) Install the latest version of Jet Drivers (version 4.0 SP8 for all OSes except WinME) that are specific to your OS via:

2) _AFTER_ the Jet drivers have been installed, install MDAC 2.7 Service Pack 1 Refresh via: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/download ... CDownloads

This should trigger components of the Jet drivers to register, after which your system (& MediaMonkey) should function properly.

If this doesn't work, then please run the version checker tool that is posted to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=301202#2 , save the results and send them my way.

The error also started to show a few weeks ago. I've tried everything showed here but nothing seems to work.

Could you please send me the following information?

1) Please run the version checker tool that is posted to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=301202#2 and save the results.

2) Please run the sysinfo utility (Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Information). Click Action | All Tasks | Save as System Information File (this will take several minutes.

This information would hopefully help get to the bottom of this issue.
