iPOD sync to PC of ratings

Post by dnlusa »

Hi,

I would like to know if there is anyway to sync the rating changes that I do on my iPod back to the PC. Is this feature supported?

thanks

I have the same problem.
But for me this feature worked in the past.
But since upgrading to 2.5.4.978 my ratings and played# are not synced any more.

Could it be that I have to activate 'Auto sync tracks from the device to PC' in MM?

Ok. I found it in the help file of MM
Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Synchronization list from the device
... In general, this option should be enabled, but make certain to copy Tracks to your hard drive before synchronizing if:

You've added Tracks to your device from another computer and these tracks do not exist in your Library
You've modified the tags of Tracks on your device but not in the Library
So according to this statement I should uncheck this option in order to sync the rating changes from ipod to PC. NOW IT WORKS!!!!

I had this setting checked because I had the fear that i.e. my AutoPlayList "Unplayed 200" would add 200 tracks to the ipod with every sync without deleting the old tracks from the ipod. But that doesn't happen. AutoPlayLists seem not to be affected by this setting.

Sorry to the community that I didn't RTFM and bothered this forum with another useless question that was answered before at the right places. ;)

But at leased I could add value to the forum later on.

Peace

Well,

I have to say that I follow your indications and it does not work for me. If I modify the Rating on a track in the iPOD, this modification is not copied back to the PC.

I'll keep investigating but any additional help is more than welcome!

thanks

Ok. lets try to analyse the issue.
Please do the following steps and report the result:

1) Change the rating of a track from the Album or the Artist Node in your ipod
2) Change the rating of a track from the Playlist Node in your ipod
3) Connect to MM ("autosync as soon as ipod is connected" must be off) and verify the rating changes in the ipod node in MM. In the subnodes you must see them.
4) sync manual
5) verify the changes to the corresponding tracks in MM

Anyone???

Is this a problem for everyone? Or are a few of us missing something obvious? I tried making certain that playlists contain no duplicates (per past posts) and all settings are correct.

This is a huge disincentive for purchasing the Gold version. One of the primary sorting/autoplaylist criteria would be ratings. Does anyone at the company care? If not, that is cool. But you are losing sales from me, and I would hazard a guess others too.

iPod-modified ratings not sync'ing back to PC

Post by tonidavid5 »

I don't think you're alone..

I'm just new to both MM (I was a longtime user of Musicmtach) and iPod, so I've reading a lot in this forum lately.

I'm experiencing exactly the same kind of problem described above. The ratings I modify in my iPod Nano 2nd Generation don't sync back to the PC.

I check the songs under the Ipod node and they show the modified ratings, but nothing changes on the original titles held on the PC after sync'ing.

I use manual sync and have tried both to check and uncheck "Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Synchronization list from the device", without any success.

Resurrecting this thread...

Post by maynard »

I've gone through every post on this forum that I could find regarding syncing ratings from an iPod back to MM and can't find a definitive answer. I've tried every solution I could find posted here and still can't get my iPod to sync ratings back to MM (I don't want to have to post process ratings after a sync so I haven't tried apoujade's rating sync script... this makes me nervous anyway.)

Most of the forum threads I've read sort of fizzle out with no real answers... The MM docs say ratings sync should work but I've seen a lot of posts from a lot of people that either go unanswered or just end on a big question mark. I know I'm not alone here.

From what I've read, it sounds like some iPod models work and some don't. I have a 5th gen 30Gb (v1.2.1 firmware) and it seems that quite a few other people are also having problems with this particular model.

Man.. I've tried everything. Has anyone figured this out?

TIA

works good for me

I have a 5.5 Gen 80 gig, and I have an auto-playlist set with the parameters of:anything over 3.5 stars stays, so if I change the rating on the ipod it changes it in my library, and if it is 3 stars or below, it removes it from the playlist, and the ipod automatically. But you have to click the auto orginize. Right click the Ipod node,, and click auto organize. make sure that sync items from ipod to pc is checked in the properties.

I should have never posted that last comment, now mine doesn't work, and I didn't change anything.
