Monkey Server 0.97 (2011-04-10) [MM3] w/Squeezebox Support
Re: Monkey Server Beta 0.91 (2009-08-28) [MM3]
Suggestions
1) in future, would it be possible for the user to select which columns they want displayed? For example, I dont need to see track number but would like to see file type.
2) in future, it would be helpful to add a client side "Include" filter for file type ie check boxes for MP3, FLAC, WAV, ALL. In that way, a user can filter on just the mp3 files for situations where:
a) the client machine they are remotely connecting from can only play mp3 files,
b) if thats all a future monkey server media player can handle.

Both are good suggestions. Thanks.

Hey, a quick question:
Forgive me if I've misunderstood, but does this work from a web browser on another computer? If so, what's the URL I need? I tried http://<computer-name>:2233/songs/htm from the other computer, but obviously this doesn't work. (I also have no server experience at all

You are close. You should be able to get to it using the following:
http://<computer-name>:2233
This should display the login prompt.

There are a number of ways to to access the computer running MonkeyServer from a web browser on another computer. (Note you need to tweak your Windows firewall security settings to open port 2233). Here are some options :jednie wrote:You are close. You should be able to get to it using the following:Benn wrote:Hey, a quick question:

1) from any computer your network use:
a) http://<your_remotecomputer_name>:2233 or
b) http://<your_remotecomputer_IPaddress>:2233 or
c) http://<your_public_router_IPaddress>:2233 **
2) from any computer on the internet, use:
d) http://<your_public_routerIP_address>:2233 ** or
e) using hostnames with services like no-ip ** per post here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 05#p220526/

I am very tempted, with jednies permission, to draft a one page visual which illustrates and describes all this, as it took me a white to get to work perfectly as it now does. This is one great product. Do not give up!

Go for it! You are better qualified than I am to write it after all that you have been through getting yours to work. Thanks for your help.

Suggestion:
Some users, who only use Monkey Server within their home, may not wish to be bothered with the login prompt. Are any of these alternatives possible?:
1) the ability to specify the login information so that it is passed in the URL path, ie http://mypc:2233;user-admin;pwd=monkey
2) a server checkbox setting to disable the prompt
3) the ability to bypass the prompt ( ie excepetions) for specified IP addresses

That would be welcome MediaMan. I've tried
But maybe I'm struggling with Port Forwarding. I've tried several combinations of external and internal ports, I'm just thoroughly confused.

I'll have an early draft in a few minutes.
Are you using XP Home? XP Pro? Vista? What router?

Here is a first draft of a Visual Help Page for remote access. Needs more work re notes, but its a start.
Jednie - Comments? - Hope I did this justice..
Benn2 - hope this draft helps. Feel free to PM me if you need help. This is very doable - you are likely missing a small step....
Not sure how to embed or attach pics in this forum, so here is a link to a png file:

Nice work on this. This should be a big help to those with questions. Thanks for doing this.

Re: Monkey Server Beta 0.91 (2009-08-28) [MM3]
Thanks for that MediaMan, turns out I was missing the windows firewall step.
Still having trouble with forwarding the port on my router (when I get time I'll post a screenshot), but the LAN-server is doing me just fine for now.
Jednie: Thanks for this script, it will prove to be very useful with my 2 computer setup. One request though, the use of track number tags on the m3u, so when I select "play all" on an album it plays in track order. Again, I might just have missed something..

I don't think track number can be added to the M3U file. I am not having this problem when listening to albums as Monkey Server sorts by track number when an album is displayed and then writes them to the M3U in the same order. Are you certain that your media player isn't configured to shuffle the files.
All - Is anyone else having problems with the order of tracks when playing an album?

Re: Monkey Server Beta 0.91 (2009-08-28) [MM3]
Works for me. If I select Play All, MediaMonkey plays them in the order they appear. See comparison attached: http://www.box.net/shared/s2by3tjlrljednie wrote:All - Is anyone else having problems with the order of tracks when playing an album?
