Today, I plugged in my u3 into my comp running MMrc6 and although MM didnt crash, there was still some issue with the drive. I was unable to really do anything but use MM. An improvement over nothing at all, but still not there. Anyone else still getting this?

I haven't tried any builds since RC4, because the bugfix list for that RC said that this was fixed, but my system still has the same issue. I've been syncing with Winamp, but I'm not very happy about it. Does anyone else know whether the U3 problem has been resolved in the release version?Anonymous wrote:[Writing as Izzmit, just forgot password]

I'm having the exact same problem - didn't realize it was MM3 until reading this post. I am able to use my U3 drive as normal when MM3 is not launched. However, if MM3 is launched, when I insert the U3 drive I cannot access it through Windows Explorer or any other method, and in fact my system locks up. When I remove the drive physically, my system returns to normal.
I'm using the very latest 3.0.1.1127 version of MM3.
Frankly, I have no use for the U3 software so I'll be purchasing a non-U3 thumbdrive soon, but wanted to let the Dev's know the problem is still there.

Crash of mm3 and u3 drive
Even I am having this problem. I did not realise until now that it can be mm3.
I think everybody who mentions a bug should first tell the build that they are using..
i am using 3.0.0.1116
windows xp sp2
I am using sandisk u3 (u3 software is the latest. I had updated it)
I get probelm when i have u3 with synch (using sandisk synch software) enabled and also roboform2go enabled for firefox portable and IE
hope this observation helps

Same issue here
I just downloaded and installed MediaMonkey_Setup_3.0.1.1127.exe and had the same problems. I didnt realise it was due to a conflict with my U3 drive until I checked this forum. I thought it was crashing my Firefox browser.warreni wrote:Just tested the release version with my U3 drive - still no fix. Would someone please address this problem? I hate the idea of having to go back to 2.5.5, but that's what I'll have to do if this problem is not solved.
I checked the release history and saw that it was supposedly fixed in an earlier 3.0.x release, but I guess that isnt quite true.
Hope someone can sort this issue out soon.
Thanks for the great software...minus this bug of course!!
I'm using U3 SanDisk CruzerMicro 1GB flash drive and I haven't had any problems in this area so far, all is working just fine for months!
If there are no other steps to reproduce than just to plug U3 when MM is on, could you please answer me atleast some of this questions:
1. Does it happen always or is it an occasional issue?
2. Could you someone generate a debug log and send it me at ls <att> mediamonkey.com?
3. Which OS/system do you use?
I'm using Win XP prof. SP2, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.10 GHz, motherboard is a Biostar one, 2 GB RAM.
4.Do you have any additional software installed on your U3 device or do you use only the default set for Cruzer Micro?
5. Are you sure that this is 100% MM issue? (see http://www.u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ1 or http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=207683 )
Because I guess this is most probably problem between U3 and our CD/DVD engine (Primo burner). We've upgraded our CD/DVD engine to the newest version, but it obviously didn't help so we need more info in order to fix this problem for you.
6. Ensure that it is not related to WMDM plugin which is also accessing this drive.
i.e. Remove the d_WMDM.dll from 'Plugins' subfolder and see if it helps.
7. Which U3 model/device dou you have?
Thanks everybody for any help.

Debug Log emailed to you
Ludek,
I sent you an email with my debug log as requested. I will also duplucate the answers to your questions here for everyone else to see:
One thing that occurred to me.... I have the security feature enabled on my U3 drive....do you? Maybe that is causing problems.
I'm using Win XP prof. SP2, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.10 GHz, motherboard is a Biostar one, 2 GB RAM.
Cheers
Jason

It happens all the time. Even if in insert the U3 drive, but do not run the autostart it still happens.1. Does it happen always or is it an occasional issue?
See attached files emailed to you.2. Could you someone generate a debug log and send it me at ls @ mediamonkey.com?

I have Diskhero, Skype, Firefox & Roboform installed, but as I said above, the problem occurs even before I launch the U3 application.4.Do you have any additional software installed on your U3 device or do you use only the default set for Cruzer Micro?
I looked at these links and they are both to do with the failure to recognize the U3 drive correctly. I don't have that problem5. Are you sure that this is 100% MM issue? (see http://www.u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ1 or http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=207683 )
Cheers

Yep me too...
OK well at least i know one of the problems i've been having with MM3. I have a U3 Sandisk Cruzer 1Gb. Same problem as everyone else - if the U3 is in the USB port and active, MM3 hangs until the U3 is removed again (or disabled using the "safely remove hardware" icon).
I have noticed that MM3 sees the CDFS partition of the cruzer as a CD-Drive, not a flash drive - I'm guessing that this is causing the issue with the CD-burner plugin.
Thanks for addressing this.

I'll do it now.2. Could you someone generate a debug log and send it me at ls @ mediamonkey.com?
XP Media Center SP2, Pentium D 2.8Ghz, 1Gb RAM, dual core3. Which OS/system do you use?
Roboform2Go, Desktop Assistant.4.Do you have any additional software installed on your U3 device or do you use only the default set for Cruzer Micro?
Yes. It has only ever happened when MM is running, and is fixed immediately when i can close MM.5. Are you sure that this is 100% MM issue?

Ditto
I am having this problem as well with a 4.0 GB Sandisk U3 drive, using MM 3.0.2.1129 on Win XP SP 2.
If I plug in the drive while using MM, explorer.exe hangs. When MM reaches the end of track, it starts looping the final few seconds. Normally, that's when I have to hard-reset, but sometimes I can kill MM3 from the task manager and yank the drive, and then explorer comes back normally.
It happens every time. The problem does not go away even if the launchpad is disabled.
There's some additional software on the drive, but only Ditto is set to auto-run.
I'm not sure how to generate a debug log and it looks like you have a couple already, but if you need one from me let me know and I'll try to find out.

I am using a Memorex 4GB U3 drive with MM 3.0.1.1127 and it does not crash.
However, MM does something with the USB Key which prevents me from using the U3 sfw to eject the software; I need to exit MM before U3 lets me eject.
If it matters .. I do not use MM to synch with the U3 drive, and would like MM to ignore it, i.e. not touch it.

In MediaMonkey.ini you can find IgnoreDriveletters and there you can add/append the one used by Flash drive.

Thanks to BritOnTour's debug logs we have confirmed that the problem is in a function of our CD/DVD engine which access the drive and freezes (for some users).
We are contacting Primo for fixing it.
For those who have same problems (about freezing) there are only 2 (not ideal) workarounds
1. If you do not need to use U3 capabilites you can use this (Windows XP):
Note: You will need to have Administrative privileges to do this.
Right Click On My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> DVD/CD-ROM devices and Disable U3 CD-Rom (Right Click -> Disable). But this probably cause that you will not be able to use the device as U3, but as a classical memory disk.
2. In MediaMonkey.ini file there is parameter
IgnoreDriveLetters=AB
You can expand it to e.g.
IgnoreDriveLetters=ABGD
Where G: is U3 system in my case and D: is my CD/DVD drive
Then Primo should not conflict with U3 then, but we use this engine to reading/writing CDs/DVDs, so you will not be able to access e.g. audio CD inserted to D: via explorer tree.
I will let you know once we resolve this somehow better.
