Note that these issues should all be resolved in RC4. In most cases it was caused by the iPod compatibility settings getting disabled, and then, even if it was re-enabled, MM would detect the sync tracks on the device but wouldn't modify the naming convention to a format that the iPod needed.

So far, so good with RC4. I restored my iPod to new and even took a leap of faith and updated the firmware to 1.0.3.
I uninstalled RC3, installed RC4...I wasn't sure if I needed to do this step, but I rebuilt my database from 2.5 (there is one problem which *might* be related to me doing this, I will explain below). I did an autosync of all my playlists and voila - it worked. No stalling or crashing.
I also changed a few playlists and resync'd - success. I then went back to iTunes, which is set to "manually manage music" and brought over all my video and podcasts. They are there and seem to be playing fine. Videos are playing fine as well.
However, going back to someone else's problem with MM crashing as it sync'd on an artist beginnning with "Com..." That's an error that I also had, and I remember that I deleted the Commodores from the playlists, so I'm curious if I autosync with them on there it would work. I'll try it tonight.
The only thing I noticed is that as I have been cleaning up my album art, now, the last few album cover art / tags changes I had made aren't there. However, I'm wondering if this could be related to the fact that I rebuilt my database back from 2.5. I know that if album cover art or tags are changed it is with the song, but if I made changes in the 3 database, then, would I have to rescan those tracks in 2.5 to make sure they are there? I admit I was bouncing back and forth between both versions alot, and possibly, I didn't rescan those tracks in 2.5...so then, when I rebuilt the database from 2.5, maybe those changes weren't there.
Which brings to mind a question - when installing each new RC, is it necessary to build a new database? I hesitated to add new playlists into version 3 yet, if I have to keep reverting back to the 2.5 database, but if I can just keep my new MM3 database and work with it, that would make life easier!

album art problem on iPod
RC4 still had a problem in which album art could be corrupted. That'll be fixed in RC5.

autosync problems
frankieboy,
THAT explains it--as I just now mentioned in another thread, there is a problem with the auto-conversion rules that'll be fixed in RC5.

Yes, that is exactly what I have - only MP3's.frankieboy wrote:i can't understand why everyone is managing to do flawless autosyncs on their classics except me. I have a mainly flacs and apes and some mp3s. I wonder whether those having success have just got MP3 collections only?
